NO WORK AT BASSE HEALTH CENTRE
By Lamin Fatty

Reports reaching this reporter have confirmed that no work has taken place in Basse Health Centre on Monday morning as the Health Authorities were said to be busy cleaning the premises of the health center in preparation for the arrival of the President in Basse. I confirmed this when I went to the said health center for treatment and found quite a number of escorts with their patients also desperately waiting for the Health Authorities to finish their Set Setal.

In an interview with one Mariama Manneh of Basse Manneh Kunda who said her child was suffering from celebral malaria, the woman said when she took her child to the Health Centre, she was told by a nurse that though her child was in need of help, they could not attend to her as the incumbent President was coming to Basse and they were therefore making the health center clean and tidy. A blind old woman who also spoke to this reporter said she came all the way from Sabi said when she arrived at the health center, she found lots of people waiting for the health Authorities to finish what she called a so-called cleaning exercise.

However, to find out what must have warranted the health authorities to neglect the patients for the Set Setal, this reporter tried to speak to the Nurse in charge of the Basse Health Centre for comments but was told that the Nurse in charge was busy and therefore I could not see her. I made efforts to speak to her on the phone but my efforts bore naught. The people and their patients remained desperately waiting for the authorities, while they continued to clean their premises. The sick people blamed the health authorities for not taking their condition into consideration. They complained that if the health authorities had any concern for their health condition they would not have shelved their treatment for preparations to welcome a President. Before going to press, this reporter visited the health center at around 1.00pm and found that work had resumed.
