Over 300 youths and women, who claimed to be APRC supporters, last Sunday defected to the UDP/NRP alliance during a UDP/NRP alliance mass political rally held in Bakau Sanchaba.
Tamsir Kujabi, who led a group of youths assembled at the rally, said his group comprised over a hundred APRC supporters from various parts in Bakau.
He said they are joining the UDP/NRP alliance because they envisage a prosperous Gambia that would be economically viable, developed, peaceful and secure, with respect to human rights and freedom of the press.
Mam Boye Jeng, who also claimed to lead a group of 137 women from Tallinding, publicly renounced his support for the APRC and switched allegiance to the UDP/NRP coalition.
Yahya Jamba, a one-time Ward candidate of the APRC in Lower Fulladu West, together with over a hundred of his purported followers, also defected to the UDP/NRP alliance. “I resigned from the APRC as a Ward Council candidate in Lower Fulladu so as to give chance to the NRP who are now having their candidate as the Ward Councillor in that constituency,” Mr Jamba declared.
Lawyer Ousainou Darboe, UDP/NRP flagbearer, in his speech, welcomed all the defectors to his party and called on all to join the UDP to get rid of the Jammeh regime.

Kondorong you keep talking about unity but you don't want NADD to join UDP/NRP alliance. How is that like? They need to unite in an alliance and the only alliance presently existing is the UDP/NRP. It would therefore make sense for Nadd to join them just like Henry Gomez did. If Nadd and Halifa feel too big of themselves to do that, why should anyone bother? That is their right and you can't take it away from them.
We are done with that unity debate now. We want to move on and defeat Jammeh. It is still possible. If NADD still want to join, then Halifa can withdraw his nomination and let them do so. That is permissible under our electoral laws and Halifa can do it. One thing I keep saying; ‘UDP/NRP will not entertain any of his fantasist agendas. He got to be realistic if he wants to work with them.’
Thanks.

Well can you show me where i have indicated that i dont want NADD to join UDP/NRP. Infact i raised the current debate regarding NADD memebrs who dont like the party to be criticised. Look at my postings again. The current debate on halifa was partly started by me. My party affiliation right now does not matter because either way i will still be a loser.
As for me, the objective should be to bring about democratic change and i dont care which group joins which. But you see, i am not covinced if the opposition will make it in three weeks. So i intend to reserve the little energy i have to something else beacuse this election is a done deal.
I am no political fanatic nor do i intend to be one. I want to be free to criticise my leaders if they go wrong and that includes halifa, Ousainou hamat or any one for that matter.

Well Jayang
I think the name: ALLIANCE FOR REGIME CHANGE should have been the name for NADD. It catches the eye and easy to sell to the electorate. Its more motivating and energising. I dont know why no one thought of this. |

Boss?Who coined ARC? I believe Hamat first made the campaign strategy declaration "alliance for regime change" and shorten (ARC) by no other than Taalibeh! A scholar and script writer! Am also inspired by it!
