Lawyer Ousainou Darboe, Candidate for the UDP, was accompanied to IEC by the Hamat Bah, leader of National Reconciliation Party and former NAM for Upper Saloum, senior officials of both parties, and thousands of supporters, who thronged the streets with mixture of cultural drums and jubilation.

Shortly after his nomination, Mr Darboe expressed his delight at the outcome of the process, saying "it's hitch-free". He assured that the UDP will never spark problem in the country. "I am asking every Gambian to comport himself peacefully, because one of the greatest assets we have in this country is our peace and tranquillity," he said. He expressed hope to win this year's Presidential election.

He urged Gambians to reject material inducement and remain resolute against any intimidation in the exercise of their civic duty to decide on the September 22nd elections. He questioned the independence of public institutions, saying this is what the UDP-led government will fight against.

He then disclosed plans to establish Youth Entrepreneurship Scheme and then elaborated: "We will make sure that the enormous resources that the commercial banks utilise in purchasing bills, are channelled into the productive sector of the economy, through which the youth will get employed."

About possible reunion with the NADD, Mr Darboe said the UDP/NRP coalition did not rule out any alliance, with any political party. He maintained that anything is possible, saying politics is dynamic.

To put the records straight so far; it appears we have recieved mix-messages and contradictions (although time bound). Please reflect and reconcile the facts and assess your own feasibility studies of the current political situation from the following comments:

1. BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Thanks Bronx for original postings of one of the useful links, selected for detail background information and impasse of NADD under http://www.thegambiajournal.com/artman/publish/article_51.shtml

2. QUOTES FROM UDP/NRP LETTER ON NADD

"The UDP/NRP Alliance wishes to draw NADD's attention to the fact that legally UDP/NRP cannot be part or members of NADD. The NADD Executive seems to be ignoring the decision of the Supreme Court in the case of Sallah and others Vs. The Clerk of the National Assembly and others.

The leadership of the UDP/NRP Alliance is very conversant with the laws of The Gambia and in particular laws regulating and governing election matters. Probably if the views of some people who are part of the UDP/NRP Alliance were heeded the legal and constitutional mess created by the registration of NADD would have been averted. The UDP/NRP Alliance is not seeking and has never sought power for its sake. It is an Alliance that is genuinely committed to the amelioration of the worsening conditions in all aspects in The Gambia.

Finally I regard your rejection, without any discussion, of our proposal as a rejection of our invitation to meet and discuss and this we accept in good faith.
"

3. NYARIKANGBANA'S - Darboe's full interview as published by the Pro-APRC Daily Observer from above

"About possible reunion with the NADD, Mr Darboe said the UDP/NRP coalition did not rule out any alliance, with any political party. He maintained that anything is possible, saying politics is dynamic."

4. NADD AND FLAGBEARERS POSITION

"I hope we have reached a common understanding of what actually happened. If you disagree with my view I will be honoured if we meet at Father Farrell Hall to put our different positions to an audience in the interest of transparency and accountability, as we prepare the ground to challenge the APRC regime. We should clear the ground once and for all and restore the climate of respect that has always characterized our relationship.
Yours in the service of the Nation.
Halifa Sallah

Finally to proof my point that Halifa is willing to offer any sacrifice necessary to promote NADD for the oppostion to contest under one ticket from quotations below extracted from Halifa's interviews:

Foroyaa: Would you be willing to step aside?
Halifa:
I am a compromised candidate. My asset is my determination to serve.......

Foroyaa: What is your advice to NADD Militants?
Halifa:
Leaders come and go but the people own the country. There duty is to enlighten, mobilize and organize the people for their political, economic, social and cultural emancipation. Let them continue with their cultural revolution to empower the people through songs, theatre, community meetings and so on so that they take ownership of their minds. This is the way they can decide who to put in position of leadership so that they can take charge of their collective destiny and ensure that it is a destiny fit to be claimed as their own, a destiny, of liberty, dignity and prosperity."

Darboe need to shut up and go back to the BAR. This guy had proven his
selfish and irresponsible behavior. All he is interested in is the presidency.

His interview on focus on Africa revealed how incapable this guy. How can you improve Gambia's education by intensifying informal education.
How can you improve Gambia's economy through the commercial banks? I would rather have Yaya in place than such a desperate, power greed person.

No economy is better off without a vibrant private sector. We have seen the UK and the US. Corporate firms are pivotal to their economic advancements and commercial banks are integral part of that. If you think about Barclays bank, HSBC just to name a few and think about their activities within these respective economies, you will not disagree with the about statement.

What is happening in the Gambia is that year in year out; the central bank is displaying countless treasury bills for sale. These bills do attract huge interest rates which the central bank has to pay to potential buyers upon maturity of their treasury bills. The commercials banks being fully aware of this lucrative business are using their financial positions to buy lots of these treasury bills thereby siphoning a lot of money from the tax payer in the form of interest. But the funny thing about all these is that neither the central bank nor the commercial banks are doing any sort of investment within the country that would generate employment perhaps due to insecurity owing to the unpredictable nature of our government.

What Darboe is saying is that, instead of the central bank raising huge internal debts with huge interest rates for the country without any commensurable effect on the economy and the job market in particular, his government will coordinate the relationship between the central bank and the commercial banks so that in stead of accruing huge internal debts which have no positive bearing on the economy, the commercial banks would have to be fishing interests more in the areas of creating new businesses for the youths that are likely to provide greater employment opportunities for the youth than on treasury bills. That would also mean there will be a control on the internal debts the central bank is annually creating for the country thereby cutting down on our debt burden.

You know, those who cannot speak or don't understand the language of economics and development must not come here to feed us with scrap. Darboe has a Masters Degree [LLM] in corporate Law from Canada. In addition to that he has been advising and representing commercial banks in court on corporate finance related matters. So he knows what he is talking about. Beside, within the UDP, they have economist of very high standing who have the knowledge and vast experience in this field. For example, Amadou Taal is a season economist, Mrs Denton, a one time adviser to the central bank, Amadou Sanneh a charted accountant, the list goes on.

If you don't know, ask or listen. You might know one day.

I do not oppose unity but I oppose dumb union.

Daffeh,
Great writeup as usual. Don't get distracted by the likes of solution. He showed his ignorance by asking a man with tens of thousands of Gambian followers to shut up. How naive or ignorant can you get? His hate for the person of Ousainou has no bounds. He doesn't understand the nuances of the economic policies Darbo is advocating and instead of asking, he hysterically asked him to shut up. What kind is buffonery is that? Gosh the intolerance displayed by some of these NADD supporters will blow your mind.

YOU KNOW, THOSE WHO CANNOT SPEAK OR UNDERSTAND THE LANGUAGE OF ECONOMICS AND DEVELOPMENT MUST NOT COME HERE TO FEED US WITH CRAP. DARBOE HAS A MASTERS DEGREE IN CORPORATE LAW FROM CANADA. FOR EXAMPLE AMADOU TAAL(EX PPP MINISTER) IS A SEASON ECONOMIST, MRS DENTON, A ONE TIME ADVISER TO THE CENTRAL BANK(OF THE FORMER PPP REGIME), AMADOU SANNEH, A CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTANT, THE LIST GOES ON.."(SS DAFFEH)

Lay off the pipe my brother!!!. What the hell are you smokimg. Please save me from puking by not adding to your list of corporate lawyers, financial or economic analysts and geniuses. Little wonder The Gambia Commercial and Development Bank dissappeared in thin smoke overnight leaving behind a huge debt burden to the gambian taxpayer. The Agricultural Development Bank was in such a mess leaving our poor farmers to ponder what was its purpose while cursing those who initiated and couselled it. Again leaving behind a debt burden we are still unable to pay. What about the Continent Bank. Can Amadou Taal, Mr Darboe and the bunch of finacial counsels tell how it is such a failure. Where is the BICI just to name a few. Can your smart arse corporate lawyers and economists tell us why everything they touched or put their mouths in goes bust. Why should my children and children's children pay for their incompetence and greed.

Mr Daffeh if anybody does not know his butt from his economics then it is bloody well you. Do you know the role of a central bank? It manages the nations currency and co-ordinates its actions with commercial banks among other things but it does not invest money to generate employment as you fool want us to believe. It is a non-profit body not a commercial bank. Decision about financial expenditure to create businesses and employment come from the ministry of finance. So please don't teach us UDP economics because it is for donkeys.

Mr Daffeh it is not just commercial banks that engage in the business of treasury bill but private individuals as well, which is very healthy in any given economy because it means that any profit generated in such a venture remains within the economy and thus could be used to create more wealth as opposed to external borrowing, which only profit external lenders. You people in the UDP don't even have a clue where the Gambia's economic problem lies nor do you understand the concept of economics hence your backward economic policies. Please tell the Dobo Mansa to stop embarassing the Gambian people when talking to the international media about his stupid economic policies least they begin to think that 40% of the electorate who voted for him in the last elections must be donkeys if they share his economic vision. The trouble with the APRC government is that they don't have a sound economic policy coupled with institutional corruption, therefore is not qualified for certain development aid, grants or loans to finance various economic ventures hence their over-reliance on domestic borrowing via treasury bills not not that issuing treasury bills is a bad thing. Once again Mr Daffeh take your UDP economics to the donkey!!!.

We have seen some heated exchanges on confusion already through this forum and in my opinion that phobia generally existed or is contributed by the media hype and politicising the national media as in Darboe's nomination speech (partly recalled under this topic).

DARBOE'S NOMINATION SPEECH

Lawyer Ousainou Darboe, the nominated Presidential candidate for the UDP, has accused the GRTS of misinformation, stressing that the national media house, has been turned into a political outfit for the ruling APRC governing.

Addressing the press after his nomination, Mr. Darboe said Gambians should not be emotional; that they should not be carried away by material inducement and should not succumb to intimidation in order to make a decision. "I am asking every Gambian to conduct himself peacefully, because the greatest assest we have in this country is our peace and tranquility," he said. Mr. Darboe pointed out that their chance of winning the elections are extremely great. "Our principal opponents have enormous wealth at their disposal and they are asking the state media to misinform the public. He cited a GRTS reporter, Kebba Dibba, for saying that Hamat Bah was to present nomination papers, inorder to cause confusion. The UDP flag bearer noted that journalism should be done in a professional way. He pointed out that his government will make sure that there are professional journaliss in GRTS, who are competent and professional and will stay regardless of political affiliation. He accused GRTS of being a political institute because all their employees are seen in APRC "ashobies."

Shaka, before I say anything in response to your rambling, can you tell me what ministerial post [s] did Amadou Taal ever hold in the PPP Government? Also, can you be informed that the troubles associated with the commercials banks you mentioned do not happened on Darboe's watch and therefore I need not to talk about them. Besides, there has never been a UDP government. What I know is that what they are talking about is totally different from what you referred to. Their proposal was introduced in post apartheid South Africa and succeeded in producing a big black middle class society there. If it can happen in South africa, why not tiny Gambia.

Anyway, just answer my question regarding Amadou Taal so that I can press when that distortion is done away with.

Thanks

Nyarinkangba, my brother can't you stop following petty issues and trivial matters and focus on your resources on how to deal and uproot 'The Rock' from these statements quoted below:

1. QUOTED FROM JAMMEH'S SPEECH AFTERMATH OF COUP:

"Those who want to be President, those that are doing covertly or overtly, if you want to be a president of The Gambia, I can assure you that you will have the longest years to wait. Billahi Wallahi Tallahi, if you want to be the President of this country, I can swear to Almighty Allah, you must be more patient than a vulture, because I am not giving you the power now. When am I going to hand over The Gambia to you? And before that I will not hand over The Gambia. The day we achieve what is enshrined in Vision 2020, the day The Gambia and your oil benefits every Gambian and non-Gambian, the day your oil benefits every African and all sets of human race, the day The Gambia becomes a superpower, that is the day I will hand over the power to you the Gambian people. You have at least 30 years to wait. Do I raise any eyebrows? Yes, the British were here for 400."

END OF QUOTE

2. JAMMEH OPTIMISTIC OVER SEPTEMBER POLLS

Incumbent President, Yaya Jammeh, has told reporters shortly after his nomination on Monday that he will win the September Polls, even if a million alliances are contesting with him.

"I expect more than this from The Gambia people, because they are development oriented. Gambian people want the country to be number one and they know who can do it," Jammeh said.
He said he is a responsible person and not a self-centred man. "To show that I am a responsible person, I have my wife next to me. I am not alone and I am not a self-centred person. I am here for the people and that is why I have a wife and that shows the difference between me and the rest," he expressed.

Jammeh also said that even if there will be a continental elections in Africa, not many African Presidents can contest against him."

Its late to sell party manifesto here. Its a futile exercise and endless debates to endorse the best manifesto or come to common consensus on them.

NADD was supposed to consolidate all manifestos and strategies under one umbrella if all opposition parties were genuinely committed to properly constitute it ; inorder to brought up an alliance for regime change . Only to dis-integrate because of divide and rule policies, mistrusts and power struggles! tragedically to dis-service of the nation. Its always back to square one or to the drawing board!

Mr Daffeh you will never wriggle out of this one, you bloody worm. Your financial genius in the person of Amadou Taal serve as a permanent secretary(Ministry of Agriculture) and Principal Planner(Ministry of finance) in the PPP regime, didn't he? Now we all know these knobheads were responsible for all strategising and architecting of horrible economic decisions of that regime. In short they were the "brains" behind the development projects of the PPP regime. All that the former PPP ministers use to do was just to read(if they could be bothered) and rubber stamp whatever was passed to them from their "able" lieutenants for implementation without having the abibility to interprete what is put in front of them. Hence the numerous failed projects and ventures in that era.

Where did i say that the crumbling of the commercial banks i mentioned happened under Darboe's watch? What has Darboe got to watch so far apart from his bottle of whisky and God willing it will remain at that. You came here proclaiming that Darboe and co were the masterminds of the Gambia's economic glory not me. All i did was point out to you almost all the economic projects they had a hand or mouth in went bust and those years are pre 1994. So don't play the smart arse with me.

The civil service only works on the agendas of the government. They don't setup their own for they are answerable to the government. Hence, the name civil servants. Who have not work in the civil service? Halifa worked at social welfare under the PPP administration, sedia at Education ministry, Waa Juwara as commissioner and Sarr at Gambia High School. But the only people who worked in the ppp government are OJ and landing Jallow sonko and they are all NADD. That is the fact.

We were told Amadou Taal was a minister but when caught with pants down, they changed the story and now we don't know where they stand. They are not interested in the debate because they are inept and inarticulate. That just tied my hands, you know. Thus, I am compelled with a heavy heart to rest my case.

Thanks
