CINE TELE REVUE in Belgium
Something that is really embarrassing to all Gambians, emission to the Belgium TV la une will be on the 29th august 2006 on Tuesday at 20:15, about Gambian falling in love with old white men and women, and the marabout in the baobab. What will they show and say about gambians???? The Gambians in Belgium do not miss this emission, at first i don't like the title in French- Charters pour l'amour. Chaque année, des Européennes de tous àges vivent une romance en Gambie avec un bel indigène. La formule touristique connaît un franc succès.... le marabout dans le baobab...
I hate they talk about something bad about my country, Oh boys n young ladies, what again?[/i]

Media in the west is a for-profit business. They need viewers and readers. They use any sensational story to get their viewers. A rational balanced story is rare in the media. Therefore, there is no need to worry about shows that may not be complementary about Gambians. Goodness knows there are so many more stories portraying the negative side of the West as well. They suffer from the same sensationalism.
The fact of the matter is, it does not really matter what they say on Belgian TV about Gambians in the news! It is what Gambians think of themselves that matters a lot.

You knows, sometimes the boys say what they suppose not to say or what is not even true, just to get sometime, and they never know until it's too late, embarrassing us living with them, the difference between i & my husband is 4years, but yet still am a shame, worry about what will they show in my own country. |

I agree, it is embarrasing. But no smoke without fire. What you see in the endless documentaries about Gambia and the silly old women/men who go there in search of "love" is not all made up fiction and has been going on for ages, since the first tourists came. The fact is that most Gambians came to the west via some lovesick tourist, those who didn´t know raise your hands... |

Toubab1020, men also loose their looks, but think they are attractive no matter how old they are... I personally know much more attractive 50+ women than men |

Yeah, while men do anything to look ugly (e.g. drinking) and still live in the dream to be attractive, women take better care of themselves. But only a minority has a face-lifting. Ok, I'm off to Gambia now! |

yeah, there are lots of old guys who walk around and think they´re tha bomb with their beerbellys... Then those hunks have the nerve to always critisize how women in their own age look, and they go for the younger ladies which they usually dont get. Unless they have a phat wallet of course... some moneyhungry bimbo will always fall in their trap. But maybe there are those who really love and desire their 20-50 year older mate... but I believe thats very rare, like one in a million. What could they possibly have in common? One likes watching tv-programs like "How to knit" and wears flowery long dresses, her husband likes his MTV and his Nike´s and Timbs... Opposites attract? I think not in cases like these.
Sorry if I sound a lil´negative today, I just hate rainy sunday afternoons. |

We see lots of May-Dec. marriages with our local Filipino populations here. Surprised about this happening in the Gambia among haoles and local population. Maybe the book How Stella got her groove back got popular??
with the breakdown of community, family ties, the couple in the West has been the cental relationship, but even doesn't "work" u.s. figures - 1 in four or five marrages end up in divorce.
Theres alot to say about this situation. Maybe we were meant to not have "happily ever after" only once? |

1)Well as we all knows that Western media are after more in a profit than what actually happens. 2)the stories also may catch some realty about those BUMSTERS at our Beach's.they are real bringing bad images to the country I know they are there for their interest but must go by this way? No indeed not. Sometimes we don`t have to belame outside the world for what is going on at our smiling Coast.
