The Current State Of The Continent Bank By Abdoulie Dibba
In responding to a question raised by the Member for Jarra West, Hon. Kemesseng Jammeh, regarding the total amount of money received from the debtors of the defunct Continent Bank vis-à-vis the outstanding balance to be settled and how much is still owed to the depositors, VP Njie-Saidy indicated that although the collectable debt is estimated at D88, 200,000.00 (Eighty-eight million two hundred thousand dalasis), to date a total amount of D21, 431,471.00(Twenty-one thousand, Four hundred and Seventy-one dalasis) has been collected. VP Njie- Saidy went on to inform Deputies at the National Assembly that monies owed to depositors is estimated at D75, 000, 000.00(Seventy-Five Million dalasis). However, she said, only about 76per cent of this amount or D56, 903, 714.00(Thirty-nine million, eight hundred and thirty-two thousand, six hundred dalasis), was paid out to depositors. VP Njie-Saidy concluded by saying that the liquidation exercise is on-going and the liquidator would endeavor to ensure that all bonafide depositors are fully re-imbursed in due course. VP Isatou Njie-Saidy made these responses at the National Assembly for the Secretary of State for Finance and Economic Affairs, who is said to be on vocation.
