UDP SUPPORTERS TRIAL ADJOURNED By Fabakary Ceesay and Modou Jonga
The trial of the five supporters of the United Democratic Party, at the Brikama Magistrates Court, has been adjourned till 11th September, 2006, due to absence of the presiding magistrate, S.B. Tabally, who was said to be sick. The five UDP supporters, namely Jerreh Fatty, Lamin R. Darboe (the UDP candidate in the recently contested Kombo East by-election), Buba Darboe, Maimuna Jobarteh and Momodou Demba, were all arraigned previously on Monday, 7th August, 2006. They were all charged with unlawfully assaulting their complainants, thereby causing bodily harm. According to the particulars of the offence, the assaults were committed at Pirang Village in the Western Division. The prosecutor was ASP Badjie. The complainants include Lamin Secka, Kawsu Gibba, Sainabou Touray and Awa Jatta.
BAKAU COUNCILLOR CASE REOPENS By Fabakary B. Ceesay
The Councillor of Old Bakau Ward, Ousman Jatta (alias Rambo) on Wednesday appeared at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court presided over by principal magistrate Kebba Sanyang. The senior defense Counsel, Rachel Mendy held brief for Ousainou Darboe. She told the Court that Mr. Darboe had traveled out of the Country, but that he would be back within ten days. She then appealed for the case to be adjourned. The prosecution officer, inspector Bojang, complained that the case had so far been adjourned on three occasions and that his witnesses are all the time present in court. At this juncture, Magistrate Sanyang adjourned the case till the 29th of August. Readers could recalled that Ousman Jatta was arrested in June and taken to Court by the State. He was later remanded and granted bail.
