ROOTS: SINTET
For those Gambians and non Gambians, here are some maps of Sintet, curled from the search engine "Google". Sintet, situated right by the Bintang Bolong is a mile from the border on the eastside, and one of the capitals of Foni. The village is known for its diverse culture, and early education with a population of over five thousand people (5,000.) The village, Sintet, takes its name from the first "Bainunka" woman that lived in the area. The major tribes are Jolas, Fulas and Mandinkas, with minorities of Jahankas, Bainunkas, and Manjagoes.
The people of the village are farmers. Women do gardening, and produce a lot of rice in the swampy faros by the Bintang Bolong. The men do groundnut and millet farming. The famous Mandinka song “Binta-Bolongtala, Masanneh-Ceesay” is attributed to this great tributary.
I remember well my grandmother telling me how their grandfathers, a group of Fula herders moved in search of green pasture for their animals from kiang-jali, ended up tracing the bantaba yiro (tabayee), according to traditional dictates, and some white cotton was rapped on the tree. This happens to be the gathering place, and centered right at the heart of Sintet Fula kunda (for the Fulas.) The same thing applies to Sintet Bako (for the Mandinkas), Tamba Kunda (for the Jolas), and Kabambu etc…
If there is any peaceful village, with diverse co-existence, Sintet is one among the many villages. The jovial relation that exists between the different tribes of the village is fascinating. For e.g. The Fulas can tease the Jahankas and the Jolas, like wise the Mandinkas, vise versa. Imamship is with the Jahankas, Alkaloship is with the Tambakunda Jolas, etc…
The Badjie Jolas are believed to be the first settlers, and they are responsible for consulting the famous Meites (spiritual consultations) during traditional functions. While the Jolas provide palm oil, the Fulas provides milk, and the Mandinka fishermen fish. This kind of interdependent relationship is unique.
This is also the home for prominent people like Dr. Yero HJ Baldeh (UN), Dr.Karamo Sonko, former PPP minister James Alkali Gaye, former Gambian ambassador to DC and Arabia, Baba Drammeh, former Cooperative Manager, Demba HJ Baldeh, Custom Officer Njobbo Baldeh, MRC senior Musa Jarjou, and Army Senior Lang Tombong Tamba, just to mention a few names. The good sons and daughters of the village can be found in all works of life.
Citizenship in Sintet conforms to the laws of the Gambian constitution. Those born in the village are citizens, and very well this must not be altered, however they cannot be immune from criticism, and being brought before the law if they commit any crimes, just like any other Gambian. In fact, before some one from Sintet can get an ID card, you will first get a letter from the Village Alkalo, and then proceed to Kalagi to get a Seefo’s attestation, and proceed to the Immigrations. If any body engages in fraud, then such people deserve to be exposed and face justice.
Though, we have some of our Sintetarians in the military, Intelligence, and other state divisions, but that there is no military barracks in Sintet. There is no NIA office or police station. In fact, those of our villagers in the military only visit home while civilians, and on their off times. So far, not even an ant has been killed in that village, not to talk of a respected human. Whatever atrocities are to be linked with few that hailed from Sintet shouldn’t be confused. This in any way cannot be supported by the peaceful villagers of Sintet, or it will never happen in the Village (by Allah’s grace.) The people are too decent and humanitarian that they don't engage in such inhumane activities.
The many activists engaged in exposure of hidden social dangers are doing a good job, but caution must be exercised to avoid feeding history with the wrong things, or at least not to wrong innocent villagers. At this time of this piece, I am deeply humbled and proud to be a native of this village, where I enjoyed great companionship from all the diverse tribes of the village.
For the records, I confirmed that Lang Tombong Tamba, Tumbulli Tamba and Musa Jammeh are all born citizens of Sintet. Their citizenship conforms to the laws of the Gambia, by birth. If they committed any atrocities though, I ask activists not to spare them in their magnificent endeavors, because neither are they immune nor owns any other status that will warrant them not to be exposed.
I also take this opportunity to call on Lang Tombong, Musa Jammeh, and all other decent sons and daughters of Sintet, who happens to find them selves trapped with the Jammeh regime to call it quits, and look for something more rewarding. And that they should get their hands off decent Gambians, for a soul is too important to be tortured. “Let Justice guide our actions.” is one respected phrase in our national anthem, therefore please go by that, and don’t agree to being used in any inhumane activities.
For the Sintet our homeland; For the Sintet ever true.

A jaaraama Mawdo I am conveying my wholehearted support for you and the progressives in and from Sintet.
Your action regarding the callous distortion of the villages image and its people was patriotic and praisable.
It is just sad most of the people on the different forums choose to be indifferent.
Keep up the good work. The truth shall prevail. |

Thank you Biraago, and i will share this joke about Sintet with jany., believed to be true, though i avoid narrowing my self to a fetish, but that i believe that God distributed his powers-some in the trees (as in herbs), most in the Quran.
This one like Halifa always said, is call of duty. When duty calls, we have to answer, otherwise we become betrayals of our nations and our people.
It is a wide saying "Any that criticised Sintet, never visited there."
The arguement that the elders put "nyam-jodoh" in the drinking wells, better explained as "eat and stay." In reality, it happens to be a place of stay for many visitors. This is either by coincidence or by virture of the believed powers. It is heaven for those born there, and those that visited the place.
I am quick to condemn anyone's act that is heneous, and happen to be from Sintet. Such people must not be spared, just like any other Gambian who commits similar crimes.

"..but that i believe that God distributed his powers-some in the trees (as in herbs), most in the Quran".
{20} [Dhaariyat 51:20] On the earth are signs for those of assured Faith, {21} [Dhaariyat 51:21] As also in your own selves: Will ye not then see? {22} [Dhaariyat 51:22] And in heaven is your Sustenance, as (also) that which ye are promised. {23} [Dhaariyat 51:23] Then, by the Lord of heaven and earth, this is the very Truth, as much as the fact that ye can speak intelligently to each other.
Anyway, I shall remember being well prepared before visiting Sintet again (because of the (Chaami joodo, min mi Chaamataako, mi haari). Kono mi yaray kosam. (laugh)!!! |

Good research elder. Please take a drink when you visit there, your heart shall ever be with us.
By the way, thanks for the quranic qoutes. It is both a dawa for the forum, and an authentication that powers are distributed.

[4:135] O ye who believe! stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah, even as against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, and whether it be (against) rich or poor: for Allah can best protect both. Follow not the lusts (of your hearts), lest ye swerve, and if ye distort (justice) or decline to do justice, verily Allah is well-acquainted with all that ye do.
This virtue is very had to maintain by a dishonest person.
Keep it up.

Biraago,
This one is very powerful. I believe what the brain thinks, the tongue says, and what the tongue says, comes from the heart.

Jaramajeff.
I dont think so otherwise there will not be something called a lie. A lot of the time we do not mean what we say. It is as a result of this that the legal system has what we call a defendant and a plaintiff all seemingly telling the truth. One of them must be lying.
I would like to share a joke here relating to this. One old man once said that the word HARAM(forbidden) came about as a result of those who did not benefit from illegal transactions. When everyone was asked to open their mouths for a piece of the forbidden transaction, only those who never had one shouted HARAM. However, those who had some, just walked away. So a lot of the imes what the tongue says is not from the heart. Meaning it is sincere.
Did the AFPRC really meant and sincere to the now forgotten catch phrases of ACCOUNTABILITY, PROBITY AND TRANSPARENCY.It is because of this that we have elections to assess what is promised and what is delivered. |

Thanks for your comment but I don't think the compariot was generalising his statement to engulf all and sundry.
It was a follow-up to previous exchanges between us.
After having followed statement coming from Yerro and actions withnessed by many, I have the sincere beleif that he is a truthful person. Thus promting the statement which he was responding to.
To sum it up, It is to only a muumin (true believer)that his statement could be attributed to. So, by this virtue, the APRC are automatically disqualified among with any of their likes.
Hope you are now in the picture. |

welcome Biraago
I sure did get the picture. I did it on purpose to generate more debate.
You have disappeared for a while. By the way, you did promise to tell us the original inhabitants of Banjul for nearly four months now. When do we expect it?

"I am not very good at decoding. You have to excuse my weakness.", Kons.
I believed you when you said the above, especially when it comes to reading my threads. It's been a busy day here.
This is a pat on Uncle Biraago's back. When he recited the quranic aya, and he added the last one supporting my arguement with facts from God-swt. I was saying takbirr!! For someone to do that, he must have known a lot from the Quran. "This one is very powerful. I believe what the brain thinks, the tongue says, and what the tongue says, comes from the heart.", Dalton. Biraagoo said with his tongue what he was thinking, and this i believe he have at heart-mastered.
But that since you were looking to spread the discussion, it is also understood. I "agree", I "disagree" easier to digest. I was good at whooping kondorongs in the 90s.
What are the updates on the ground buuuuu ??

Have you seen them in the 1990s. I hope the magic water is not taking its toll.
Well the campaign is on but i think the initial euphoria is dying out. There isn't that level of interest compared to the early days of NADD. The blame game is going around.
I believe the opposition will make better gains in the national assembly not at the presidential elections.
There is so much in the favour of the opposition but only if they are united. |

Good exchange there guys. We need humor on this forum and please do not count on me to bring it. Sometimes am too serious for humor, but I love getting a laughter here and there.
The joke for the old man about Haram may in fact be true. I think, correct me those of you more knowledgeable on the quran, it is said somewhere that bigs are Haram because Prophet Muhamed (PBUH) was riding on one and the pig dropped him, then he yielded Haram to both the big and bird that frightened the pig. If this belief is really true, then the old man is vindicated in the joke.
One more suggestion guys, see I can't have fun too long before I jump right back into business again. I just believe life is too short for us to be able to accomplish a whole lot for humanity. Anyway, I think we should start discussing strategies for those of us in the diaspora to directly engage the government regardless of who wins. For too long we have been seen as opposition and not part of National development. Look out for a topic to spearhead the debate. Best of luck

Kons., I honestly agree with u regarding the slim chances. Never say die, we still have days to go for 08/28.
Demba, you cannot engage someone who silents any fruit that is germinating from the ground, though that is the way things are supposed to be. Jammeh is the type with inferior complex.
