The current high popularity of President Yahya AJJ Jammeh around the country, especially the massive defection of grassroots opposition supporters and constituency mobilisers as witness lately in Western Division, North Bank Division, Lower River Division, Central River Division, Upper River Division, Kanifing Municipal Council and Banjul are early signs of President Jammeh's victory in the forthcoming Presidential elections in September.

The question now is by how many voters or what percentage of margin. In response to these questions, an informed analysis will provide the following scenarios. Since President Jammeh will secure the lead as illustrated in the past Presidential elections, one may posit that the increased in President Jammeh's popularity will equally increase his majority in the forthcoming elections.

President Jammeh's popularity today is the result of significant and incomparable achievements that he and his government achieved in the past ten years. And due to his personal involvement, all development projects have been successfully completed.

This image of the President, as an action-oriented leader has completely transformed the image of The Gambia as a self-conscious and self-confident nation.

President Jammeh's philosophy that 'only the best will do and nothing else' has been espoused and internalised by young Gambians, especially the youth.

It is as apparent as a bright day light that Gambians, especially Gambian electors will want to continue this trend of national development, and national consciousness and to allow President Jammeh to continue to rule this country and to continue to inspire the young people to be hopeful of a better future.

The inspirational and charismatic leadership style of President Jammeh is perhaps the single most important phenomenom that will determine voter behaviour in the next Presidential election.

In fact, one could easily say that Gambians, particularly young Gambian and women who constitute over 70% of the votes are most likely to vote for President Jammeh. Against this scenario, a land slide victory is in the offing.

The desire and aspiration of the youth to peruse and achieve higher heights in education and President Jammeh's response to this youth aspirations, particularly in the provision of scholarships and personal assistance to students both in The Gambia and abroad will surely attract the young voters to vote for President Jammeh as he has proven beyond all reasonable doubt that he has the interest of youth at heart.

Surely, it's not expected that the beneficiaries of the President's benevolence will turn around and vote against him. The likely scenario is that, they will massively vote for President Jammeh to ensure a landslide victory.

The electors have come to realise that politics and elections are about national human development and not about sentiments and emotions. The Gambian voters are today conscious of the benefits that are now manifested under the leadership of President Jammeh. Our dream have now become physical realities to touch and to feel.

The electors are aware of the successes in the areas of access and affordibility to health and education. There is a Cuban doctor in every part of the country. The projects supported by the Taiwanese government and those of the EU has spread right across the country.

The provision of boreholes and their acceleration of the rural water supply project is among the success stories in our sub-region, the significant improvement recorded by our Fisheries industry, in particular, artisanal fisheries is also a success story that has impacted positively on the livelihood of the inhabitants of Brufut, Tanji, Bakau, Albreda, Tendaba, Balingho, and indeed in Banjul.

These visible benefits will influence voter behaviour and will produce a landslide victory in the forthcoming Presidential election.

To crown it all, the farmers are not only receiving the balance of payment due to them, but also receive seednuts in the form of non-refundable assistance.

These factors and the success stories, coupled with the dynamic mobilisation of party militants and supporters and the groundnuts level, plus the opening of the doors of the APRC to dissatisfied opposition who has finally seen the light are factors that favour a landslide victory for President Jammeh.

In the next Presidential election due in September, 'the question about the results will not be who is the winner, but by how much has President Jammeh won'.

The signs are that a landslide victory for President Jammeh is highly likely.
