1.President Sall’s envoy holds talks with President Jammeh

"A special envoy of the Senegalese president dispatched to Banjul, on Wednesday said he discussed with the Gambian leader, the existing bilateral relationship between Banjul and Dakar.

“The meeting availed us the opportunity to discuss and reaffirm the bond of ties between the two nations. We have also talked about so many areas of importance to the two countries, notably The Gambia’s efforts to bring lasting peace to Casamance, improved cooperation on commercial activities, and the forthcoming Gambia-Senegal Commission meeting which is supposed to be held in Banjul in October this year,” he further revealed. "

2.Senegal seeks closer Banjul-Dakar ties, as special envoy meets President Jammeh

"Ndiaye told waiting journalists after a closed-door meeting with President Jammeh that his discussion with President Jammeh also centered on the role being played by the Gambian leader in collaboration with Senegal towards bringing lasting peace in the Senegalese province of Casamance.

‘The objective of the message is to further strengthen the bilateral relationship between Banjul and Dakar, the friendship between President Macky Sall and President Jammeh for them to collaborate on a daily basis to strengthen the relationship,’ Ndiaye said.

He told journalists that he had a very lengthy discussion with President Jammeh and his ministers all centered on ways and means of further strengthening the relations between the two countries.

According to him, the relations between the Gambia and Senegal is not a question about security, but development as well, noting that as always stated by the two Presidents, Gambia and Senegal is one population with two governments.

‘We also discussed about strengthening the economic, cultural, and commercial cooperation between the two countries,’ he said, while revealing that there are plans to have a joint commission meeting between Banjul and Dakar in June in Banjul to look at the cooperation between the two states.

‘We also discussed about the excellent role played President Jammeh in collaboration with Senegal to bring lasting peace in Casamance as soon as possible,’ Ndiaye further told journalists.

‘President Macky Sall is commending President Jammeh for his stance in that regard on behalf of the Senegalese population,’ he said, while calling on President Jammeh to further assist in bringing a lasting solution to the situation in Casamance.

‘President Macky Sall has also extended his gratitude to President Jammeh for the warm welcome he accorded the new Senegalese High Commissioner to The Gambia, and for allowing him to visit Senegalese nationals in prison,’ he said.

The Senegalese envoy also lauded President Jammeh for allocating a plot of land to Senegal for the construction of a residence for its High Commissioner to The Gambia."

Senegalo-Gambian Secretariat boss speaks

"Ambassador Doudou Salla Diop, one of the most seasoned diplomats on the African continent, has taken up position in Banjul as head of the Permanent Secretariat Senegalo-Gambian, PSSG.

The secretariat had been the reference point for Senegalo-Gambian relations in the decades immediately after independence before a temporary absence.

Mr Diop’s appointment came following successful negotiations between the two governments to restart the body. It is based in Banjul with a liaison office in Dakar, with Ambassador Doudou Salla Diop as its executive secretary.

Diop boasted of four solid decades of active diplomatic service including spells as ambassador of Senegal to many countries in Europe and Africa, regional and continental bodies. He mediated over several conflict spots in Africa and presided over treaties and accords across the continent.

In this interview, he sits with our general correspondent Lamin Cham to talk about the PSSG........."

‘Gambia-Senegal ties could be model for African integration’

"A four-decade old seasoned diplomat, who is now heading the reactivated Banjul-based Senegalo-Gambia Permanent Secretariat (PSSG), has spoken extensively about the blood and historic relations between The Gambia and Senegal; a tie he said has the potential of becoming a model for the much sought-after integration in the African continent.

Speaking to the Daily Observer Wednesday morning in an exclusive interview at his Brufut temporal office, Senegalese-born Ambassador Doudou Salla Diop, who has served in various countries across the globe, discussed an array of issues bordering on relations between the two countries. The Senegalo-Gambia Permanent Secretariat was reactivated recently to give the kiss of life to the relations between the two countries; that if it were not for colonial hegemony would have remained a single country given the geographical realities. ...."
