As part of its 9th EDF country strategy funding for The Gambia, the EU commited 61.7Million Euros as direct development aid to The Gambia for the period 2002-2007. The original EU allocation was 52.7Million Euros however, the EU decided in 2007, to add two new projects namely; a) Technical Cooperation Facility 2 to strengthen Non-State Actors and b)additional support for the National transport Plan, at a tune of 8.964Million Euros.
The 9th EDF financial envelop which The Gambia received in full, according to the EU, was spent on the following projects, among others:
1. The National Transport Plan (48.5Million Euros)
2. Rural Water Supply Project (6.8Million)
3. Institutional Support for NAOSU (1.2Million)
4. Support for 2006-2008 Election Cycle (535,000)
5. Support for Non-State Actors (almost 2.5Million)
Meanwhile, the EU also allocated 1.6Million Euros in 2008 to help revitilise Gambia's groundnut sub-sector.
All figures relates to the 9th EDF Country Strategy (2002-2007) only-not clear if the 1.6Million is related as it was approved in 2008-. The National Transport Plan in particular received additional funding in the life span of the 10th EDF.
Are these what you would call 'Chicken Change'?????
