During the AU there was no official/unofficial merchandise, why not. I cannot think of one single international event that you could not buy a hat, tee-shirt, poster or something. Members of the bantaba I could not event send a postcard, wishing you were here. Seriously this was a money making idea for someone. Is this type of enterprise not allowed, i know some of the delegates and attendees would have bought a tee shirt, postcard. Loss of income.
PS, in the media centre it was 130, yes ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY DLS for a plate (small) of benechin

jambo. the AU brought a lot of money into the economy. a lot of civil works were carried out which obviously were subcontracted and hence would filter down to small and medium sized companies.delegates also spent a lot of money during their stay.

however the AU summits are not run by some professional body like FIFA! its the host nation's government that has to raise the capital and host the event. just like G7 or G8 meetings, its to discuss political and economical issues not about making money!!
