I am suprised that Junkung is now not against migration. He is on record to condemn it. But i am saddned to learn that he still believs that Europe discovered Africa. Does that mean Africa was not populated when Al Viso Cadamosco arrived on the shores of the Gambia in the 15th Centure or perhaps when Hannon arrived in 47BC or when the Coulanders arrived later on?
On each visit, Africa had been populated and if we go by latest findings, Afica is the continent of evolution. How could we have een discovered when we were already there. May be it is the same history that Colmbus discovered America when native indians were already there. Howvere that hsitory is being re-written as a second grade student once challenged me that Columbus could not have discovered America when people were already there.
Well indications are they could not agre on anything sustantive. Even on human rights, term limits to presidency, rule of law key ingredients to development. It looks like every one who attended is a PRESIDENT FOR LIFE JUST LIKE BOUKASSA OR ROSE TO POWER THROUGH FORCE ON ITS PEOPLE. IN SUCH A GROUP, TERM LIMIT IS LIKE THROWING MEAT TO HUNGRY LIONS. IT IS DEVOURED BEFORE IT TOUCHES THE GROUND.

Or may be, may be, when we are very "... patient as a vulture....", long after we have departed or forced to leave our homes and families trying to go to fotress Europe, or may be, after we have long crowned all them as Emperors, or may be, there will never be a change of guards unless one drops dead in office. May be, thats the way its supposed to be. Or may be, sons will replace fathers in office and may be, may be will never be.

May be the sun also contributes to the lack of productivity. No to coups and no to term limits. As long as there is no term limit for presidency there will always be coups period. What a joke |

Because I want change and change is hard to come by. secondly I want a term limit so that no dictator would stay indefinately and that too is far away in the desert maybe.
so I feel it.I agree with ylowe. peace Janyanfara |

do you think that would happen, in the west they accept the limitation of terms. It seems with african leaders they want it for life. look at nigeria |

Those of you who live in the UK you need to watch the programme which came on Channel 4 i belive called PRESIDENT FOR LIFE, based on a story of a deposed army General who took power in africa but was also forced out and sought asylum in the west. He printed on his bath robesthe words PRESIDENT FOR LIFE and one of the characters was called Emannuel who was his body gaurd and now and Orderly and trying to take up music classes to survive because the host country could no longer finanace them and their own funds were drying out.
It is a funny series and was on around 1995. You will laugh your head out but a lot of the acts can be found in Africa |

At the risk of being unpopular in this forum: Jammeh said some things I fully agree with. Okay, the 'discovery' was a Freudian lapsus which shows that the colonial education is still present in his mind, and what he said about migration implicates that 'his' Gambia is not a place to stay. But on the whole he was right:
“Let us not criminalise migration. I am not encouraging migration. But for me to stay in a particular place, there must be a reason for that. Migration is a natural phenomenon. Nobody can stop it.”
He seems to be fully aware of the role Africa is playing in the international rush for resources:
“You have external forces who serve a vested interested. Their interest is to see an unstable Africa so that they will continue to exploit African resources at the detriment of Africa".
Jammeh seems to be intelligent. But then, why is it necessary for him to act like a dictator? I'll never understand this man. |

Thanks, kondorong, but the truth is I don't have any stable conviction concerning Jammeh. He seems to be a contradiction walking on two legs. Okay, then he must be like me, a true Gemini... |

I do support him many times but you are quickly embarsssed by some spontaneous decisoins and actions. So mellow your support and expect the unexpected. The only thing consistent is the inconsistencies. I congratulated him for the win in Knombo but later found out the opposition candiate wa already put in jail after the election results were announced. |
