Senegal’s army clashes with rebels July 5 2012 By SAPA Ziguinchor, Senegal - A military spokesman says Senegalese soldiers in the country's south clashed with separatists from the rebel Democratic Forces of Casamance in fighting that killed several of the insurgents and injured two soldiers.
Abdourahim Kebe, the army's director of public relations, says the clash began at dawn on Thursday near the village of Emaye, located around 25 miles (40 kilometers) from Ziguinchor, the capital of the southern region of Casamance. He says the rebels attacked the government position with rocket-propelled grenades, and the military retaliated.
Newly elected President Macky Sall held his cabinet meeting last week in Ziguinchor, a gesture intended to spotlight the agriculturally-rich but troubled southern district, which has struggled for years with the low-simmering separatist movement.

"He says the rebels attacked the government position with rocket-propelled grenades, and the military retaliated."
I wonder where the rebels obtained these quite sophisticated weapons? As I understand "the rebels" these are country folk who make their homes in the forest and have no or very few links with the outside world, very curious where these armaments came from, again not available from your local Tescos! just as polonium-210 isn't available.
