hello peeps how is that day, i am just back from the smiling coast. where to start, it was nice to see the families i have helped in the past, one will graduate from gtti this year, and one has made into nursing school. SMILES and benechin. fab. daily life still goes on, but how i don't know from what i can see no wages are going up, but rice, sugar, fish and other main foods are going up. it is 7 dls for bush taxi. on the other side those of other that travelled 1st time more than 9 years ago will remember the coastal road, from airport to senegambia region would not recognised it, my first trip near turntable, brusabi, and yumdum was home to the cows. now housing estates, hotels, traffic lights, cashpoints you name it is all happening. the development is astonishing. not sure who is buying the land, big developers, mainly indian owned.

Welcome Back Jambo,
I know what you mean about Gambia's rapid development I was there 18 months ago after an absence of 3 years and it had vastly improved. As of the cost of living that's just rising every where. |

Agreed Sister O ,what is needed is beneficial job creation that will enable the average Gambian to earn money to keep up with worldwide increased costs of everything, this is not forthcoming, as Jambo writes, "the development is astonishing. not sure who is buying the land, big developers, mainly Indian owned. " Good, the Indians are VERY clever people and if they are able to create industries and sell things the way that they do in India, Gambia as a country has a chance,I hope that the average Gambian is able to see this.

Gambia as a country has a chance,I hope that the average Gambian is able to see this. toubab1020 do you really mean this, I think the average gambia is only just now getting a chance, for too many years basic things were out of their reach, education, employment decent wages, government. Everyone on the bantaba who has travelled there in the past 5 years will tell a tale of some corruption, dishonesty, tribal differences that held the gambian back. What i would not like to see is Gambia loose its Gambianess, and have to look to another nation for payment, china, india, and other nations that are moving in. a bit more openess would be nice, |

Exactly right, will it come about ? I wonder, perhaps the culture is far too ingrained and established. |

Shows what can be done with a different kind of thinking,BUT you have to be prepared to work with conditions and people that exist today in Gambia in order to do it It looks a really viable proposition, but one which took a great deal of work and money to get off the ground. Be careful , Momodou may ban us all if we continue to give FREE advertising to products! ,still I suppose there is a tenuous link to politics
