Disturbing news seem to confirm that Bora Mboge was removed from office quite recently.
If so why remove such a dedicated and talented man, someone who has long served the nation with dedication and enthusiam. To all those who know Bora, they know that this man is a person of exceptional qualities and humbleness, therefore why is such a drastic fate metted out on this good man?
If the GRTS has become what it is despite all the limited resources imposed on it, who more than Bora could take the credit? If this sacking, (one of a long line of sackings now so common in the country) is any indicator, one can only say how on earth can any form of responsible sentiment be felt by any public servant in his or her duties.
Sure thing, fair is fair when an irresponsible or reckless person is removed from office and taken to task, but why stigmatize or victimize a good person when he or she is doing the job right? At the end of the day it is the whole nation that ends up as the big loser so long as such policies remain the order of the day.
All I can say to Bora is this, "Keep the faith, good deeds are never lost".
Jah's peace.

Well i have said it many times we have to be each other's keeper. It seems in the Gambia; once a family member is removed they become the opposition. The other person who replaces the old become die-hard APRC. After a while, when the ELECTRIC BROOM SWEEPS THEM, they get mad and turn anti. We have to like or hate a party based on principles and not the privileges we get or are denied.
If you are appointed to a job because someone was unnecessarily victimized, what you can do is to refuse to take the job. However, if you do, then you have also contributed to the cycle of sycophancy. There seems to be an unending supply of willing labor to take your job as soon as you are fired no matter what. BUT WHAT YOU GAIN ON THE SWING, YOU LOOSE ON THE ROUNDABOUT. EASY COME EASY GO. Just like as Ali Mazuri said “… if they come for me during the night and you keep quiet, they will come for all of you during the day….”.
It is a lesson that we never learn. GRTS has had at least four Director Generals since its inception. Perhaps it is the most stable institution in the Gambia where the average tenure of office is two years. In some areas it is six months and some have had office less than 48 HOURS.
When I talk to teachers who teach civic education, their problem is being unable to update their notes. Notes are only valid for three months. They have to constantly revise it because holders of public offices come in and out like a bee colony building their hive.
From all indications, he was a stunt supporter of the party. Then again, your success or otherwise is not dependent on a well-defined performance criteria, but to an unwritten and mostly inconsistent standard that no one ever knows. You are always told that it was an ORDER FROM ABOVE. How many of you have heard of this. THE ORDER FROM ABOVE unfortunately can never be independently verified. How does it become an order, who initiates it, who are the committee members, what is their Term Of Reference is an issue that has caused fear in the hearts and minds of many a senior public servant.
At least, we have seen a lessening of the rate of firings. There used to be a messenger at State House who carried the dismissal letters and he was always dispatched around 3.00pm- an hour before closing. As soon as he enters the quadrangle, extension lines are busy not knowing which office he was heading to. People tract his every step and direction and there was what can be called a BAND OF BROTHERS informing each other about his moves. It was more accurate than a GPS system pinpointing his location by every millimeter. If he enters a records office of a particular department, it was dead silence. SOMEONE WAS ON HIS WAY OUT. He had a nickname and many feared him more than Junkung because he was the Messenger of Bad news. When you saw him, it is too late to smile. Junkung sometimes jokes about this messenger that if you do not want him to visit you, then you have to do right. However, when he was only delivering a routine administrative correspondence, the relief and sweat on the foreheads of officers is everywhere to see. They have survived that day but tomorrow is just in sight and no one knows what it will bring.

"Ning do fa mang faa, do fa buka ke Alkalo ti". " si bahba yero maa yaa ni, Bahba samba woonta jariga"(if one's father(meaning bahba yero in green [fula]) is not dead, another's father ( bahba Samba in green [fula])would never be Alkalo)
Why remove anyone for God's shake if they have not done any corruption but serve the nation?
In Jinlanka government, read the above. Then you will atleast have a clue to what I mean. peace Janyanfara |
