"GPDP SECRETARY GENERAL ON THE FORTHCOMING NATIONAL ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS"

Dear Editors,

As we brace up for the forthcoming National Assembly Election, I am obligated to exercise my civic responsibility of informing and educating the citizenry of the role of the National Assembly.

Fellow Gambians and Countrymen and Women, as we march towards the National Assembly Election, it is important to highlight the importance of the election of representatives for the highest decision making body or Organ of Government in the country.

It is very necessary for the citizenry to understand that the laws enacted and the way our Government runs, is the responsibility of this body which is elected by the people and for the interest of the people.

Then it must be noted that the person who represent the people must be elected not for an individual or party interest but the interest and good of the people they represent. This calls for a critical and very objective choice. It is very unfair to subject our choice, voice and will to the interest of a few. We have to broaden our vision by allowing an objective decision making body or National Assembly.

This is the only way to cater for the common good and interest of the majority. These are some of the issues we have to look into:

Who will best represent my interest or the interest of the Majority? How much has my previous representative improved my constituency? How much did they consult and inform you of the decision they are to decide or decided? This is the only way one can be truly represented. The representatives are not patrons or patronesses but are people obligated to the majority’s interest and are therefore accountable and answerable to the majority.

It is time to refrain from selfish politics and subscribe to meaningful politics that will move us forward. The decision we take and execute must always conform to and reflect the choice, voice and will of the people.

I call upon all patriotic Gambians to come out more than ever to give this country a new direction and political history. Let us vote for a critical and objective National Assembly.

I use this opportunity to thank all Gambians who turned out in their large numbers to vote in the presidential election and hope that a larger number will turn out to vote for a very objective National Assembly.

I call on the patriotic Gambians to come in their large numbers and vote for the opposition to change the darkness into light.

Do I detect a real wind of change in all Gambians? I hope so,it would be really STUPID to carry on as before.

"Simple is good" & I strongly dislike politics. You cannot defend the indefensible.
