Choked up words
When words get stuck in peoples throats And they find it hard to swallow notes They want to express When the air is filled with repressive silence Tension boils beneath the surface The kettles boiling on the stove Its water is vibrating rigorously If someone doesnt turn the fire off Either the water will boil over And kill the fire Or the water will evaporate inside.
This is the repression some people feel When their tongues are tied Yet still they are forced to smile With a mask to cover up their tears This wrenches away at their hearts!
They live under a cloak of fear To afraid to speak their truth To afraid to trust anyone one For the informers could be you, you or you Yet they smile and "Say no problem!" Its nice to be nice!

Thanks for your poetry Sister Omega. I know what you mean about the lack of trust and what one can say or not say. Being polite, making nice... just to be able to survive, yet being at boiliing point. |

The way I understand your poem Sister Omega, is that itīs not always worth trying to be nice. For one owns wellbeing, itīs better to let off all that steam instead of holding it inside. And next time someone ask someone how they are doing, why not say the truth "I donīt feel so good today" instead of faking and pretending all is good. Maybe most of us donīt do it because people donīt quite know how to handle that honest "negative" answer, especially if we arenīt that close friends. I think that instead of always trying to be nice itīs much better to always try and be honest instead. In my book honesty is the longterm winner. |

May be it is the fear of being labelled as weak that we tend to hide these weaknesses. |

Thanks for your comments Newfy, Kobo and Babylon. I agree with you Babylon that honesty is the best policy. Newfy I'm glad that you can relate to my poem being stifled or muzzled is a stagnant and frustrating state for anyone to be in, and when thousands of people find themselves in this situation it can be like a time bomb waiting to go off if the energy is not directed positively. That's why I think it's so important for each one to get to know themselves trust and honour themselves through freedom of expression which is a basic human right which needs to preserved. Last but not least Kobo I am glad that "Choked Words" touched you poetry is refreshment for the soul.

Hi kondorong my original reply was seconds before your post. I didn't see it you raised an interesting point Kondorong, but I would add that we are all weak at times this is part of being a human Being. So don't be afraid of speaking your truth. As for two year old they are sweet especially when they are not throwing a tantrums.Ha

Sister Omega, and sometimes we don't know we are stifled. Its mass consciousness, kind of like that fairy tale of the emperor having no clothes and he walks out in a fine robe before the people but it doesn't exist the clothing... i see politics alot like that these days or as they say, denial -- is not a river in Egypt...:) |

The story of the emperor and his magical robes was funny. I read this story to my boy a moth ago. Wow!!!! |

Yeah, I use to work in with the state where I am now, not too far from Yoro Bawol, maybe 19 hours away by plane. It took a year to get a light bulb replaced over my desk at work. Thats truely an example of the emperor without any clothes. |

19 HOURS FROM YOROBAWOL MUST BE SOMEWHERE IN THE PACIFIC OCEAN OR ISLANDS. BUT IT TAKES ME 72 HOURS TO REACH BANJUL. YOU ARE RIGHT. YOU ARE EVEN CLOSERTO BANJUL THAN ME |

Yes 72 hours. That is right. But you see it looks like like all the pot holes are protesting for not being repaired and some can swallow a whole elephant. I have to sleep on the way for three days to get to Banjul. It is not my fault but it is the road condition. Unfortunately we are being treated as though we are not part of the country.
Which places are more important than Yoro Bawol or which people? We are all tax payers and deserve a share of the pie unless if you live in air conditioned Sheraton. ALL ANIMALS ARE EQUAL BUT SOME ARE MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS- George Owell |
