"i am going to morocco he said, i have paid for my seat". I tried not to shut or faint but asked why morocco,, my friend said its easy, i asked what will you do there, go to italy plenty of work. i could to speak, cost of seat 6,000 dls. My comments to him fell on deaf ears. he is in my prayers.

When I was in Venice last year I was amazed by the amount of senegelse people there. They are treated VERY badly by the Italian police. Most of them are street traders....they have no security and no decent place to live.
Wish someone in Gambia would go out to these places and make a public information film to show in cinema......The reality is VERY different to the dreams....... perhaps they could show it at half time when football is shown..an ideal target audience. |

It will make no difference. The only difference is for Africans to once again serve their people. Anything short of that leads to despair and hopelessness. As Colin Powell said "perpetual optimism is a force multiplier". No hope means despair which leads to irrational decision making. We need hope to move on and even go to schoool. You go schoool with the hope that you will get job and security. If this not "guaranteed", why bother. This is the problem with every young african walking that continent. Too much despair and very little hope if any that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Yet there is so much wealth in these countries and the continent that we can only be compared to what Bo Marley said "that in the abundance of water, the fool is thirsty". Africa has gold, diamond, bauxite, iron ore, timber, petroleum, natural gas, copper, tanzanite(found only in Tanzania)yet its people walk around like scarecrows, immatiated by hunger when there is atleast enough for everyone to have three square meals.
Unless we put ourselves in their shoes, we cannot judge those who make these desparate journeys to fortress europe. People will still make the journeys even if they have to walk on one leg for as long as Africa does not PROVIDE HOPE TO ITS CITIZENS. |

You are right again Kondorong, while trying to get a bigger portion of the pie, we should also be trying to make the pie bigger so that someone without a portion can get a slice. Africans needs to change this attitude. |

I cannot agree more. "...while trying to get a bigger portion of the pie, we shoul also be trying to make the pie bigger...". Your this statement must be coming from an economics student. This is what we call production and the multiplier effect.
YLowe may be you should run the economic affairs ministry. |

Kons, not only Africans supporting other Africans in service, if there was this kind of ethic in most places, perhaps the world might become a less dangerous place. Maybe less Polpots in the world by caring for ones neighbor as oneself. Do we not in some way create our own world? |

A reverse brain drain will assist Africans to implement divesity within their National and domestic economies and provide better opportunities available for those in search for wider opportunities giving them a reason to stay at home.

African intellectuals are asking for only one thing. Being treated with respect and given some latitude to make decisons. Afric cannot match salaries but the frequent hiring and firing leads to inertia and low confidence. Evey one BECOMES A PEN PUSHER RATHER THAN A PRODUCTIV EMPLOYEE. |

Distribution is dictated by demand and supply. Supply is dictated by price but sometimes politics. If Africa puts her house in order, supply is not the problem. |

They just want to be left alone and do their jobs. Too much political interference is inimical to progress in Africa. THERE IS NO PLACE LIKE HOME. NO MATTER HOW LONG A PIECE OF LOG STAYS FLOATING IN A RIVER, IT WILL NEVER TURN INTO A CROCODILE.(AFRICAN PROVERB) |

The important thing is not where you WERE or where you ARE but where you want to GET. |

You cannot get to where you want to get to if you do not know where you are or where. Where you are or where you were takes you to where you wnat to get to.
The African proverb is very true. You cannot be more catholic thanthe pope. You may settle anywhere, but it is never thesame as where you came from. Home is never duplicated. There may be similarities but never exact.
You will always be reminded that you do not belong no matter what. Eventually roost always come home. |

Yes, its true, you can not get where you want to go, if you do not know your foundation, yourself, respect your roots, where you came from.
Thanks for the memory,I miss hearing that Mandinka? proverb about a log can be in the water for along time, but it will never be become or mistaken for a croc-croc o dile..
Also, its been said when an African elder passes, its like losing a whole library.
