i was once asked if we are part of Senegal. the world cup did senegal a lot of good. but also there is something called conference tourism which is another sector to earn money from especially off-season
its a classic circle/catch 22, if you dont have the infrastructure you will not host big meetings but to host them you need the infrastructure first.
i remember in the early 1990s Senegal hosted the Islamic (OIC) conference. they built a huge modern conference faciltiy in Dakar from then on it was OAU, africa /EU meetings, ECOWAS, Francophone etc
you have to start somewhere. Kairaba Hotel had a lot to do with the ECOWAS summit of 1990 in The Gambia.
I hope this will enable us hold big international conferences. It will only be possible if Junkung can allow public officials the latitude to make independent decisions and not allow the so called TRUE CITIZENS from harassing oficial if they would not bulge. Too many firings only leads to brain drain which we so badly need.
I risk sounding synical and i hate to ruine your day but a month after the sumit and after the dust has settled and we are left with the bill, and the gass thanks are dry and those lights are out and inflation shoots up. Then you will look in the mirror and realize that you might have been duped and that all that glitters is not gold.
