Darboe Faces Tax Evasion Allegation
By Saikou Ceesay

Friday, December 02, 2011

UDP leader, Ousainou Darboe

Main opposition UDP leader has been summoned by the newly established Tax Inquiry Commission over tax evasion allegations, The Daily News understands.
A seasoned lawyer, Mr Ousainou Darboe, who confirmed the story, is summoned alongside other lawyers and an accountant, our sources said. He is expected to appear before the Commission this Monday.

The Tax Inquiry Commission was set up last month by Gambian president Yahya Jammeh to among others, investigate and inquire into tax evasion in the country.

Timing of commission and targeting UDP leader is politically motivated? I think its witch hunting exercise, intrusion of privacy, attempting to investigate and expose UDP leaders finances/wealth and / or associated party funds (with regard to recent elections) for victimisation of UDP leader

Tax commission is oiling wheels of state terror, autocracy and same old buffoonery by Jammeh administration and to divert public attention from elections phobia by unleashing this fury (appearing to be engineered from top) on UDP leader, few days after elections and dust still remaining unsettled? If UDP leader preoccupies himself with Tax`Commission can UDP file and defend a credible petition on the elections? Just my thoughts

Very unwise of Yaya, extending his witch-hunting hands to chop off Darbo at this material moment. All what he wants to prove is that he is capable of putting anyone under custody. One of the most ugly ways of Jammeh.

Am not pre-empting what would transpire at the Tax Commission but we should not be oblivious of the fact that probing the UDP leader can extend to UDP finances, Bank statements and accounts (if Lawyer Ousainou Darboe is a signatory); mainly to hunt the UDP patrons and sponsors believed to be anti-Jammeh/APRC government; especially on recent elections campaign funding? This is a fishing expedition, so wonder how it would end and what its going to achieve

It would have been more credible if the President himself open his bank account and numerous corporations to the tax commission. I bet you he doesn't pay a dime in taxes...

This is nothing but classic witch hunting to proof nothing... Accountability shall be rendered effectively without reservation when the time comes.

Putting it thicker Baldeh, Jammeh is taking evryone fool by all his wayward miscoducts and vulgar utterances. In the end, it is safe to conclude that Jammeh is nothing less than a real fool. No person with bit of brain power will fail to see all that Jammeh is blind about. He will pay the price some day.

All that Jammeh wants to sho0w Gambians is that he is powerful enough throwing anyone in jail including political opponents like Darbo. Further to insist in playing down on the dignity of others will end up consuming Jammeh raw. Above all, it is only with his killings that thinks people are scared of him. He is playing with fire. Type of person Jammeh is makes less suitable to lead a nation. The guy is petty and selfish.
