Bro Karamba,

Happy belated eid. I must tell you that this one was beyond me for a number of reasons.

I have no idea what happened, but I pray that any that committed the foul play is apprehended and brought to justice.

May Alla swt have mercy on the deceased.

Thanks for sharing-

Postmortem on the bodies of the two deceased were conducted by officials at the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital on Monday 29th of August 2011 to establish the cause of death of the duo. But so far, preliminary reports revealed that the female soldier, Mariama Camara, died on the spot as a result of gunshot wound.

Reports also have it that her husband, Alpha Jallow, was completely weak following the incident at the barracks and that it was difficult for him to communicate with anyone. Reports have it that he was pronounced death at the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital in Banjul and that the reason of his death cannot be determined as of now.

The Police Public Relation Officer, ASP Yerro Mballow, confirmed to this reporter in an interview that the said Alpha Jallow sustained fractures on both arms; adding that the lower jaw of the late Mr Jallow was also broken. He said investigations are ongoing with a view to establishing the reason of both deaths and what also led to the incident. He said the postmortem report is yet to be made available.
The armed forces PRO asked for time in order for him to get to the root cause of the incident.

This is a complete waste of human life. Somebody should be held responsible for this and be punished accordingly.

This is another sign that our country is sitting on a time bomb. We need to salvage this country of ours and save the future of ourselves and children, and there is no better way of doing this than voting Jammeh out in the November 24th Elections.

May the victims' gentle souls rest in eternal peace. Ameen.

Thanks

I NEED TO KNOW HOW JAMMEH SHOULD BE VOTED OUT OF POWER

1. HAMAT BAH DECLARED OTHER OPPOSITION PARTIES TO JOIN HIM AND THAT HE SHOULD BE GIVEN THE CHANCE UNDER NRP BANNER OR ANY UNITED FRONT

2. UDP TO STEAL CREDIBILITY? FOR OTHER OPPOSITION PARTIES TO RALLY BEHIND UDP (CONSIDERED UDP-PARTY LED COALITION), TO CONTEST FOR THE PRESIDENCY WITH LEADER LAWYER OUSANOU DARBOE UNDER UDP BANNER OR WHICH BANNER ("REGISTERED UNDER UDP OR "MERGER OF POLITICAL PARTIES")

3. ALSO HENDRY GOMEZ DECLARED THAT HE SHOULD BE GIVEN CHANCE

4. PDOIS CONSENSUS CANDIDATE UNDER A UNITED FRONT

These are very scary times. Who would have believed that gun person(s) would have the audacity to violently and savagely attack and shoot a soldier in a military barrack??

Crimes of passion or otherwise, these are very horrible times. If a civilian is not safe in a military barracks, one wonders where else a person could hide from violent murderers.

Brother Dalton1 best wishes and sincere prayers for many returns of Eid in years to come.

There is no security to life in Gambia. How much tourist attraction does anyone expect after transforming hotels into military barracks. You can take Jammeh out of the barracks but could not take the barracks out of Jammeh. Using Palm Grove opposite the main prison camp as army barracks tells a whole story.

Belated Eid Greetings

May Mariama Camara and her husband rest in peace.

This is shocking and very suspicious i.e. is there any indication whether there are any other suspects or was this a crime of passion?

Karamba in answer to your question. Maybe the fall of tourism due to the economic downturn is a reason for the change of usage for the former Palm Grove Hotel into a new military establishment.

Belated Eid Greetings Sister Omega. About the change of use from Hotel to army Barracks of Palm Grove, the answer is closer to the lips for a willing respondent. Mile Two is already nick-named as Baba Jobes' Five Star hotel. There are already a packet number of high security prisoners lodged in Mie Two. Plotting an army barracks right opposite there seems to indicate plans to boost control. Another very good reason is that Palm Grove is close to entrance of Banjul Island. The army will easily take position to control traffic flow in and out of Banjul in case of good or bad. It has very little to do with tourism. This is not the first move by the army to take over sites. The Old Atlantic has since July 1994 turned into an army base just like the former Senegambian Secretariat or some office space near Atlantic Hotel. By the way, does that hotel still bear the Libya name and the street still called Gadaffi Avenue ?

So are you telling us that at a time when all nations are reshaping their economies to allow recovery to kick in, Gambia has given up hope on any chance of recovery and have resigned to converting 4 star hotels into millitary barracks? Interesting.

Thanks

Janyanfara, in Jammeh's Gambia only one life is important; that Jammeh. Let anyone die, that's the end.

Nyarikangbanna, the change from Hotel to army barracks is by choice of the regime's chief patron Jammeh. It is all to do with gun culture.

Nyari they were Gambian and ...?

Your argument regarding Palm Grove Hotel makes no sense to me. The hotels in Gambia have been struggling from the direct impact of the Global recession. Tourists tastes are changing towards all-inclusives, most Tourists are repeat visitors anyway. So Palm Grove Hotel being converted into barracks is just a sign of the times. After all it makes more economic since to change the usage of a building than to demolish and replace it with another one. Otherwise you'll be complaining that the APRC was wasting Gambian Tax payers money building new barracks.

Peace

I wouldn’t be surprised if it turns out to be true.
May their souls rest in peace.

Jealousy murder do happen because I remember a case in the 1970s involving two sisters in CRD/MID where one of them ended being killed by the other. The elder sister allegedly took the husband of the other. The case ended as manslaughter though, Mr. Batchilly was the commissioner in Janjanburay/George Town at the time.
