Banjul, June 2 The Gambia Journal

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has announced the date of the presidential election, bringing it forward to Friday the 24th September 2006. This announcement was made on Friday 2nd June 2006 by the GRTS radio on its 18.00 hrs news broadcast. The IEC explains the change from the month of October because that month, this year, coincides with the Muslim month of Ramadan. Political analysts here note that the move will favor the incumbent President Yahya Jammeh because the opposition parties have been lagging far behind in preparation for the elections. Also, there will be hardly any time for campaign because of the coming farming season, which will keep most Gambians busy out on the fields. Others added that the coming International Roots Festival, closely followed by the AU Summit and the July 22nd celebrations will focus extra media attention on the incumbent President Jammeh and his ruling party.

Brother Dembish,
Do you honestly think the IEC is independant?Well b4 you answered,I will tell you what I think..It is an electoral body set for Jammeh's coronation period.Don't you see any member Jammeh thinks will not bow to his wishes is fired?
I sometimes feel sad when some APRC politicians will say its the most unbiased independant Electoral commision. How do you expectto cleans your self off dirth by using filt to rub over your body?
The AFPRC should be ashamed for as they said it was Jawara government's greedy maladmimistration which compelled them to take up arms and disregard the choise of the Gambian people by overthrowing the wishes of the people.
So now that the WATER has been spilt, there is no excuse they must deliver what they've said they came for or leave. No we've tried or we want.Just do it or leave!
LONG LIVE FREEDOM!POWER TO THE PEOPLE!DOWN WITH DICTATORSHIP!

It is pathetic, isn't it? There is no independent government body curently in the Gambia. Everything is for jammeh and his interest. We are faced with a mammoth dilema.
