Corruption goes deep in Gambian society. It is so easy to blame politicians but whole society see the corruption as opportunity. I have a friend who was telling me that he would rather close down his big business when he goes away. He said closing down the business would be much better than leaving the store open during his absence. He says, his business drops more than 50 percent when he is absent. Just ask the non-gambian hookers who have to work extra with no charge just to enter senegambia/palma tourist area for their business.

diaspora! Too many Chiefs and Very Few Indians.

Halifa Salah: PDOIS is however realistic. It is fully aware that the Gambian voters are yet to reach a level of political consciousness that they rely on to vote on the basis of Principles, policies and programmes and practices.

Toubab,

It is true that the average Gambian employee will run an employer out of business if they are given an inch of trust. Notwithstanding this, it really surprises me that these amounts of money will go missing over a long period of time without management noticing. Management and their auditors have to take some blame for gross negligence.

Gambia needs some form of centralized background checking and employee referencing system to at least deter career minded folks from indulging in petty theft.

In an ideal world, this and a credit rating system is what the Gambia Chamber of Commerce should develop.

Prince. I wish. Not under the watchful eyes of 343343 relatives.

The rating system would be great. These are the things make so much difference in people's life.

Prince,It upsets me to have to admit that Turk is correct in his posting in everything he wrote above, this topic can be discussed time and time again and it still remains, look at the newspaper reports that are published,a day does not go by when someone somewhere is arrested for stealing, sometimes it is from the state (the people who hold the Gambias wealth) sometimes from companies, sometimes from hotels, sometimes from individuals,THEFT is spread like a cancer through the whole of Gambian society (look at the press !!)There is no answer if you cannot cope with the Gambia, don't come.If you are an average Gambian you are stuck in Gambia for the rest of your existance lurching from problem to problem without end,no wonder there are so many devout religious people in Gambia,GOD IS THEIR ONLY HOPE OF A BETTER LIFE IN THE SECOND WORLD,.
