Arson attack on Armitage principal's house
Africa » Gambia
Tuesday, February 15, 2011
The residence of the principal of Armitage Senior Secondary School was Monday torched by unknown persons.

The arson attack on David Haffner’s residence, which took place around 3:30am, came barely 48 hours after the melee between Armitage and Bansang SSSs during Saturday’s inter-schools athletics meet in Janjangbureh. The attackers set fire on David Haffner's private vehicle marked Pajero V6 3000, C-Blue with registration number BJL 5232 B. Many people within Janjangbureh including the governor of the region, Alhaji Ganyi Touray, security officers and students among others gathered at the scene immediately after the attackers raised the alarm.

Security personnel comprising the Janjangbureh Police, the Police Intervention Unit (PIU) at Yerro-Berri Kunda, the Prisons officers at Janjangbureh, the military at Laminkoto as well as the Fire Services all stormed David Haffners residence to help put off the fire as well as trace the culprits. They also laid an ambush around the island in a bid to trace the culprits.

Narrating the incident to the Daily Observer, David Haffner said around 3:30am, he was awakened by a bright light surrounding his quarters. He said he then rushed out of the house only to discover that his private vehicle has been set ablaze. He said the arson attack could be associated to last Saturday’s event and it could be a roll [spill] over. Meanwhile, police investigators are working hard to trace the culprits.
