Turkish Airlines makes maiden direct voyage to Banjul

Turkish Airlines on Monday landed at the Banjul International Airport, in what is said to be its maiden direct voyage to the Smiling Coast of Africa. The Turkish flagship carrier is the biggest in Turkey, connecting more destinations across the world.
At the inaugural ceremony, Kerem Sarp, senior vice president of sales at the Turkish Airlines, said the arrival of the Turkish flight to Banjul marks another milestone, as the carrier connects 380 destinations and 123 countries across the globe.
The move, he added, is part of their plans to expand their network in Africa to 54 destinations in 36 countries.
Sarp maintained that by April 2019, they would increase the number of flights to The Gambia from two to three times per week.
“We believe that Africa will increase its importance for world tourism and trade in medium and long-term. And we will also keep investing in Africa. The Gambia is the 54th destination of our network in Africa, so, we believe that Banjul flights will contribute to discover the potentials The Gambia has to offer to the rest of the world.’’ he added.
He promised that the carrier would continue to present and maintain its quality service on the continent.
“Our aim is to promote the destination across our global network and we are confident that travellers around the world will discover the beautiful atmosphere in The Gambia.”
Kemesseng Jammeh, Gambia’s ambassador to Turkey, hailed the arrival of the Turkish Airlines to Banjul, adding that the coming of the Turkish carrier would help facilitate people-to-people connectivity and boost trade, investment and tourism.
Jammeh returned appreciation to The Gambian leader, H.E. Adama Barrow for his foresight and valuable support in having Turkish Airlines operations, after his official visits to Turkey where a decision was made for the Turkish Airlines to commence flights to Banjul.
The Turkish flight operations in Banjul, he went on, would further open-up prospects and foster closer aviation ties between Ankara and Banjul.
Also speaking, H.E. Ismail Sefa Yuceer, ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to The Gambia, expressed appreciation with the move, saying the development marks another accomplishment in broadening aviation ties with The Gambia.
The arrival of the Turkish airlines, according to him, would not only increase the people-to-people interaction, but would also boost closer ties between Banjul and Ankara.
Abdoulie Jammeh, director general of The Gambia Civil Aviation Authority, expressed appreciation with the development, saying Turks and Gambians have brighter future ahead.
