I have visited EFSTH many times and it has been evident that MUCH NEEDED upgrading and cleaning of many parts has not been undertaken for a considerable period of time, probably due to the lack of available money, the philanthropic gift by PetroGas as " as part of their corporate social responsibility" is to be welcomed.

PetroGas Company today awards over 1.3 million dalasi contract to “Ideal Technical and Construction Company” for the renovation of the Male Ward dubbed “Harr-yalla” at the EFST hospital. According to PetroGas officials, the renovation and refurbishment work would cost over 2 million dalasi.

The ward was initially referred to as the “Shell Ward” before Galp Company took over. After the renovation, which is expected to last for two months, it will be renamed as “Petrogas Ward”. Speaking at the signing ceremony at the PetroGas head office in Banjul the managing director of the company, Lang K. Konteh described the gesture as part of their corporate social responsibility. He said a healthy nation is a wealthy nation and that his company believes that a healthy workforce is a requirement for the success of their business. “If you sacrifice your health in pursuit of wealth, you will use the same wealth to regain your health”, he added. The EFSTH director of Finance and Admin, Malang Ndong, who represented the chief medical director at the signing ceremony, said the initiative was timely, citing the dilapidating state of the ward. He said the renovation upon completion would provide a conducive environment for both the hospital staff and patients. Mr. Ndong called on other companies to emulate Petrogas. The PRO EFSTH Malamin Jammeh said the project was a significant milestone in the history of EFSTH. He said he was happy that all the stakeholders in the project are Gambians. The consultant Sheikh Tijan Sallah of Atrium Consulting said the contract was awarded to the best bidder.

"Simple is good" & I strongly dislike politics. You cannot defend the indefensible.
