THE WAY TO CLOSE THE CHAPTER ON DETENTIONS WITHOUT TRIAL AND DISAPEARANCE WITHOUT TRACE

Foroyaa Editorial: Published on August 5, 2015

The government should prepare lists of all those who are reported by their family members to be detained without trial or to have disappeared without trace and give a final statement on government position on each case.

This will enable family members to draw conclusions on the whereabouts of their loved ones. In the same vein, Gambians who know the location of family members, who are believed to have disappeared but are actually resident somewhere else, should inform the public that they are safe and sound in some jurisdiction abroad.

Foroyaa will continue to draw attention to this subject until the truth is known about those under detention or have disappeared without trace. A sovereign person deserves equal protection of law.

A clear conscience fears no accusation - proverb from Sierra Leone
