Established over 18 years now; the Nurr Islamic Arabic School of Niani Salikenni is yet to have a fully furnished school, Baba Kaffa Sanneh an elder charged with the responsibility of the welfare of the school told Daily News online newspaper in exclussive interview on Friday 6 March 2015. We are looking for help where ever thay may come from to address our very urgent need of furniture and water.

“Since 1997 when the school was established by the members of the community, our school struggles to get a fully paid teacher and not to talk about school furniture” Sanneh said.

The school was registered with the Islamic Arabic Education in the Gambia on July 7 2011.Which goes to authenticate its legality to operate as an educational institution.

Explaining how the committee struggles to meet the demand of the up keep of the school; Sanneh said for the past 18 years the committee which is charged with the responsibility of managing the affairs of the school find it very difficult to meet the monthly salary of the teacher. This coupled with the increased in the enrollment from 80 to 125 children which require the appointment of another teacher.

The school also is not properly fenced and as a result animals intrude the premises; there-by disturb classes.

This school lacks furniture and many of the children sit on bare floor for their classes. Clean water is also not available. The children draw water from an old tap, which is in a very poor condition and needs maintenance.

Baba Kaffa said teaching and learning materials are not adequate. Any help will be of most importance to the wellbeing of students, teachers and members of the community.

To help this school, contact the publishers of the daily news online service on 220 9906813 or the school authority Baba Kaffa Sanneh on 220 6102853.
