DAILY OBSERVER NEWS Papa Gassama to officiate World Cup decider today

Amid all the bad press and PHDs (PULL HIM DOWN) culture of Gambians, Bakary Gassama FIFA accredited world class referee and a fine Gambian ambassador officiating his first World Cup match in Brazil. Bakary Gassama handled the Chile v Netherlands with authority and grace. And he's fit too. Alli bulow kossi! How you think Mansa (Last King of Foni) is feeling ?:-)

1. DAILY OBSERVER NEWS Papa Gassama’s World Cup debut saluted by British newspaper

Tuesday, June 24, 2014

One of Britain’s leading newspaper, the Guardian has saluted the performance of debutant Gambian referee Bakary Papa Gassama, who had a near perfect game as the Netherlands defeat Chile 2-0 on Monday.

The 34-year-old became the first Gambian to participate at a senior World Cup when he officiated the deciding game between the Europeansand the South America side at the Arena Corinthians in Brazil.

As part of their live commentary of the game that kicked off at 16 :00GMT, the Guardian that has a readership of nine million people with subsidiary newspapers in both the United States and Australia were left in awe with the performance of the second best referee in continental African football.

The paper wrote in the 84th minute : "Chile have another penalty shout turned down, this time for a challenge on Pinilla. The referee doesn't give one, as there's been an offside in the build-up. Hats off to the debutant ref [Bakary Papa Gassama] and his officials today, who've had a largely good game in difficult circumstances. There's been a lot of moaning and tomfoolery from both sets of players. ".......Full Report
