"A meeting was scheduled after the declaration of the results to review the figures and issue a statement but the meeting had to be delayed because of the late arrival of Honourable Henry Gomez who later explained that he boarded a taxi to come to the meeting only to have the movement of the vehicle blocked by another transport with Gambia Revenue Authority inscribed on the door. Four persons came to indicate to him that he was under arrest and compelled him to join their vehicle. They refused to reveal their identity but later proposed for him to talk to their boss who also did not reveal his identity. The boss apologised and rationalised that it was a case of mistaken identity. "

| Kobo 80% of the people voted and 72% of voters who voted APRC. That means 8%voted yellow or blue. Two days after the result winning and complaining about the result won't change the outcome. |

From when Jammeh invaded Gambia with that unholy force of weapons to dislodge an elected government, he will continue his dirty games. How does Jammeh think when he seeks to reconcile the betrayal of every word he uttered before 1.7 million Gambians in last 17 years? He shoulod learn the art of gentle living. Jammeh is an open cheat.
There is no place for this type of person in decent society. |

As far am concerned I have certain reservations on lot of weaknesses for whole electoral process; but not complaining how elections are conducted during voting day or disputing the election results and earned by President Jammeh/APRC! On voting day there could be fraud, because its not a full-proof system and corruption is pervasive or endemic? However I trust and endorsed our marble system and polling system on election day; to provide for a reliable, fair, credible secret voting but am not competent authority to validate the results for 2011
On topic and issues in question; am just sharing, organising, producing and/or forwarding the facts and any relevant information featured through various sources; to keep community updated for forum discussions, analysis and to raise more awareness on the credibility, flaws exposed; for transparency, accountability, development and future posterity

Jammeh controls the media (so no freedom of speech - how do opposition parties get their messages across?). The marble system of voting means (I understand) that you must put your marble into the drum for the person you want to vote for - what's secret about that??
And - I understand that this marble system - unique to Gambia, was devised because of the extremely low literacy rates. My question is just this (and it's ok, I think I know the answer!) IF the President is so marvellous and has done so much for education in the last 17 years - why are the literacy rates so low??
Of course - on the day the count was correct - but how can anyone claim the system is fair? |

On average in Britain 38% of people go out and vote. In contrast in Gambia 80% of the people went out and voted. 20% abstained. My question is why was there such a high turnout from voters who if we believe the opposition are so repressed that they in huge numbers decided to place their marbles in the green cylinder?
Come on you mean to tell me that only 8% of the electorate voting in the elections were brave enough to say no to Jammeh? Do you seriously believe there are only 8% brave people in the whole of Gambia? The turn out was far too high for that. Illiteracy is no longer an excuse neither is repression on election day unless people were forced to vote.
Spin as much as you like because once again the opposition were completely disorganized with no clear policies and vision for Gambians to entrust them with the responsibility to rule the nation. I think the only consolation for the opposition is they may have more seats in the legislature that in itself is a better outcome for them 2001 when they had a bigger percentage of the vote, and decided to boycott the National assembly and have remained in the wilderness ever since. I think Gambians have themselves sent out a resounding message to the opposition and it reads ever louder and clear that these Opposition Leaders just don't represent them. It's time for the opposition really to take a long look and themselves to analyze themselves if they really want people on side. |

Sister Omega, firstly its not 8% of the population that voted against APRC, its 27%, you have conveniently distorted facts to support your argument. By all accounts 27% of the population is a big number considering APRC has all the TV and radio propaganda machines for 5 years and the opposition just less than two weeks. But most importantly one hopes these numbers will not be use to justify intimidation as we have seen in the past.
I can attest speaking to family members and friends, that intimidation of electorate is institutionalized in Gambia. All conversation on any media about Jammeh or APRC or anything critical to the Government is abruptly kill. Its simply a no go area for most people, having an election under such an environment is anything but free and fair.
Communities are intimidated to vote for APRC or else no development will come there way, in fact this year the new slogan was, "we will analyse every village votes and will know those who did not vote for APRC". Perhaps you sitting in the confort of your room do not know what it means to be on the wrong side of Jammeh, its not just a prison hotel that awaits you in mile two central prison but a times death or disappearance into thin air.
I am sadden of the simplicity of which you support your arguments, as we speak i know hundreds of Gambians, perhaps there are many more, who cannot return home to see their love ones, permanently separately with their family (family means everything to most Gambians), whos parents passed way and they did not have the opportunity to give them a fitting send off, not to mention thousands fearing of returning because they dont want to fall on the wrong side of Jammeh. Its a far more complex picture that you seem to indicate, but again i doubt you are a Gambian. |

| It is such big shame that a gang of people bent on cheating and lies will still stretch their crooked hands to expect what they don't deserve. If Jammeh was that confident, why does he prefer utilising state resources including public media 365 days selling his battered image and denying one message from the others. The biggest moment of shameful cheating is by scrambling with the rest the 11 days official time slot. Jammeh is totally out of sense to think any sane person will take him serious. Biggest child joke. |

I am not a Gambian but I have been to the country so many times over the past so many years and I have contact with so many families - it really doesn't make me any sort of expert at all (and I don't claim to be). People on this forum know far more than I do but I can not understand how anyone could claim that voting is a free process in the country.
It doesn't matter how many people choose to vote (I am ashamed of the statistics in my country), but the people who vote know who they need to vote for - not who they want to vote for.
And before anyone says but Jammeh won, move on. Yes he did. And I will move on and continue to support the people I support. But if he is so great why do I (and others like me) have to support so many people - why doesn't he instead of buying such fantastic houses in US (and maybe UK) help the people I know and I wont bore you all with the stories of the kids who can't go to school, the boy with the brain tumour, the family who lost their house in the storms and so on and so on. where is the protection for them?
Yes. I am frustrated. And Yes I will now go silent again (but will be travelling soon back to great people). |

| Very realistic question you so genuinely raised Lily. Big thanks to you and some other good hands that generously reach out to those marginalised Gambians in need. To answer your question regarding why kind people like yourself still have to be there if everyone of the 1.7 million people in Gambia had been been provided for this is how it happened. Those destitude children and families, Jammeh hailed from worse background than them. His mission for invading Gambia with guns is to take the nation hostage and greedily amass everything for selfish possession. Though he robbed so much, you wonder why he still wants more. Gambians are aware of this scale of greed and the extent it impacts on everyone and every sphere life. It has a limit to stay on. At tipping point, nothing can sustain it. Jammeh is nowhere near Gaddafi, Saddam, or any in the league of greedy senseless despots. How did they end? That alone is enough solace for Gambians. The only problem is that time and resource cost will be enormous with this massively destructive Yaya Jammeh bent on what he knows best. |

You are really telling me the opposition have no strategies to counteract sabotage? That they haven't learnt anything about the body politics of Gambia in 17 years. You are really telling us that life under APRC government is so terrible that Gambians voted four times for the same government who have supposed of terrorized the entire populous why? It don't make no sense even a battered spouse will eventually strike back and deal with the perpetrator.

| Free thinking is more powerful than free speech. Maybe that is the trait that needs to be adopted and not stifled. The marbles were in the hands that held them and each marble determined the outcome of the election. Now ECOWAS has five years to influence more conscientiousness amongst the people working across the populous in good time for 2016. |
