THE POINT NEWS Former NAWEC MD, Power Director released on bail]
"Wednesday, October 26, 2011
Former Managing Director Momodou Jallow and the Director of Power Generation of the National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC), Baba Fatajo, have been released on bail after been arrested, the police confirmed yesterday.
Jallow and Fatajo, who were sacked earlier this month, are now said to be reporting on bail at Police headquarters in Banjul. Superintendent Yerro Mballow, police public relations officer, told this paper that the two have been released on bail.
According to him, no charges have yet been preferred against them, as the matter is still under investigation.
“You cannot prefer charges against people when investigations are not completed,” he told this reporter, adding that this can only happen if there is evidence against someone."The Point |

Cash Power meters COST the customer SEVERAL THOUSAND Ds to get installed around the capital and big towns,a considerable amount ,however, as the customer found out if you want NAWEC electricity and associated load shedding then you HAVE TO HAVE CASH POWER, if you happen to live far away in a small village way past Brikama (you know the direction I mean !!) then that cost is reduced by over D1000,because it has been recognised by those who know about these things in NAWEC that people around there have very little money, quite fair.

IF NAWEC creditors paid their dues the problem would not exist ,if you went into a shop and bought tapalapa, you would not get it unless you paid, electricity is the same it's a commodity that has to be bought, these people are not to blame for anything, the problem is with those WHO REFUSE TO PAY and GET EVERYTHING FREE . |

Good,at last Nawec has been able to present some figures, although it appears that there are still gaps that want filling,I hope that in future reports will be submitted that are accurate and straightforward, will the outstanding Debts be paid or written off this time ? Nawec is trying to do a good job but as the committee pointed out : "Njie recommended that Nawec considers and look at cutting their coat according to their size of material available with them by stringently looking at the cost component of their work and streamlining that to their level of production. “You should also improve on the transparency of your procurement so that you can realise benefits that they can pass on to consumers, moderate the tariff and at the same time, be in a better position to control the IPP producers,” he concluded. "
I don't think that this was ever resolved, was it just mischief making or was there a problem? I hope that members who were involved then and posted are still readers of bantaba and have not left because they are bored with politics, with their connections this topic may yet be answered.

Definitely I was really impressed with Alaji TSA Njie and Members of the Public Accounts and Public Enterprises Committees of the National Assembly on NAWEC deliberations; from Daily observer News! He performed well and have a good insight of issues and NAWEC's problem |

I do not like to see anybody be arrested, but the people MUST now realise that the days of FREE everything are now over and like MOST of the rest of the world pay up,the slightly galling thing is that there "remain at large" heavy users of Electricity who have failed to pay NAWEC for their electricity, leading to NAWEC being owed a lot of money, will that money be paid to NAWEC by those big users ?

Here again is the shake up,the BAC is not responsible enough to pay the bills on behalf of the residents of the council area, therefore it makes VERY VERY good sense for NAWEC to offer this NEW WAY of making residents PAY for water that has to be pumped purified and piped to communities,no one is being FORCED to pay, they can go to rivers or streams or wells,BUT bear in mind that such water is LIKELY to have been polluted and is MOST LIKELY unsuitable for drinking. The days of FREE everything provided by the state are over, reality has arrived.
