I have just listened to a shocking Radio 4 programme about road safety. Aparently more children die walking to school than die of HIV or Malaria in Kenya. Can that be right? This is because children have to cross big highways with lots of lanes without crossings, lights, bridges etc... At one school the head said 3 or 4 children a TERM were seriously injured. Some adults have set up crossing patrols and are risking their own lives to get the children across the road to school.
NEW roads should always have safety in mind. Road safety should be taught in primary school.
What is the situation in Gambia? Rurally probably not bad because there arent big roads with lots of fast cars.
But in Serrekunda I wonder?
You also see overloaded transport with people not securely sat and fasten into their seats.
Motor bikes with no helmets etc...
Drink/drug driving even by taxis and guides.
It was an interesting, but shocking programme.
Does anyone have Gambian statistics?
