The politics of tribe is very dangerous and if Jammeh cannot figure that much out, then his close associates should let him understand the long-term drawbacks of tribal based politics is usually disasterous. A few moons ago, it was the Lebanese... um..whatever Association, then the Sarahules some other thing unionists, the Jolas, Akus, and several other tribal groups also visited state house. Now, it is the Banjul Mandinkas.

http://observer.gm/africa/gambia/article/banjul-mandinka-society-meets-president-jammeh

Special interest groups based on tribe is divisive, unhealthy, and bound to build up an air of mistrust within our people. This is especially true if they are allowed to have access to the state. Any organization which prerequisites tribe or other genetic factors for membership should not be allowed to meet the president.

Jammeh should ask these special interest groups to visit him as Banjulians, URR, or "Essential goods hoarders Businessmen" instead of some tribe and clan movement.

Perhaps Bamba Mass can help you find some clues from related Bantaba Gambian politics topic THE BANJUL MAFIA... under http://www.gambia.dk/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=9619

2011 IS AROUND , THEREFORE JAMMEH/APRC STRATEGY IS ON CERTAIN TARGET GROUPS & HARD CORE TRIBAL REGIONS DOMINATED BY OPPOSITION PARTIES! IT IS EASY TO DISCERN SOME ELEMENT OF TRIBAL DEMOGRAPHY ASSOCIATED WITH CERTAIN POLITICAL PARTIES. FOR THOSE POLITICAL PARTIES INHERIT ITS BASE SUPPORT DEPENDING ON TRIBALISM & NOT ON THE POLICIES. FOR EXAMPLE MAINLY THESE;

JAMMEH/APRC = ATTAINED MAJORITY OF JOLAS SUPPORT BY INHERITANCE; TRANSLATED INTO FONI & KOMBO REGION DOMINANCE

DARBOE/UDP = ATTAINED MAJORITY OF MANDINGO SUPPORT BY INHERITANCE; TRANSLATED INTO KEREWAN & BADDIBU, ILLIASSA, MANSA KONKO (KIANG & JARRA) & JANJANBUREH DOMINANCE

BAH/NRP = ATTAINED MAJORITY OF FULA SUPPORT BY INHERITANCE; TRANSLATED INTO FULLADU, SALOUM & BASSE

THE TRIBAL CARD HAS BEEN PLAYED IN GAMBIAN POLITICS FOR A VERY LONG TIME!

TO OVERHAUL THE OPPOSITION IN CERTAIN REGIONS YOU HAVE TO INFLUENCE, MOBILISE & PENETRATE CERTAIN ELDERS OF TARGETED TRIBES!

TRIBALISM SHOULD NOT CONSIDERED A TABOO TOPIC BUT RELEVANT IN AFRICAN POLITICS, AS JAMMEH ENTICE "BANJUL/URBAN WEALTHY NEW "MAFIA" UNDER BAMBA K. MASS MICROSCOPE THIS TIME "BANJUL MANDIKA SOCIETY" & NOT "BANJUL WOLLOF DEMBA" & ALL SORTS OF IMAGINATIONS THERE CAN'T BE ANY DOUBT THAT JAMMEH'S MOVE IS TO CONNECT WITH THE POWER HOUSE OF MANDINKA PATRONAGE!

I was stunned to read about the Mandinka society visiting Jammeh. Jammeh sees the Mandinka tribe as an opposition block so something must be at steak here. Kobo is right this is a well thought strategy for the 2011 elections. It does not take a lot to bribe these Gambian elders. This story proves that we have long ways to go before we get rid of tribal politics.

Terangba you are right brother,the only motive begind it all is the act of some private elements in society who want ot solve their persoanl problem rather a solution to our collective problem.They will go out to lure these elders with Jammeh's dirtymoney just for him to win the coming elections.Its all a sad situation if u think of it all with these Mandinka elders who went to state house.After all the insults and the discriminations the mandinka tribe has got from jammeh, hell people are sleeping over here in The Gambia men.... I am thinking of leaving The Country for good now.

On the other side of the coin; under present terrains popularity of opposition parties concentrated within certain hard core tribal regions cannot be guaranteed dominance by them; as reflected from previous General elections. CERTAIN OPPOSITION PARTIES APPEAR TO BE DELUDED WITH POPULARITY OR MAJORITY SUPPORT RATHER THAN DOMINANCE AS IT IS ONLY JAMMEH/APRC THRIVING TOWARDS 2011!

VISIT IEC WEBSITE TO ANALYSE RESULTS OF GENERAL ELECTIONS AND HOW IT DWINDLES FOR OPPOSITION PARTIES OVER THE YEARS; http://www.iec.gm/results

1. Daily Observer coverage of last Presidential tour reported; President Jammeh resolves to reward Foni under http://observer.gm/africa/gambia/article/president-jammeh-resolves-to-reward-foni

2. From related Bantaba Gambian politics topic Opposition Leader Hits Hard on President Jammeh under http://www.gambia.dk/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=9555

The President's remarks were as quoted;
"President Jammeh during the dialogue with the people’s tour last month has singled-out Baddibou Salikenni and Kiang as communities that failed to support him. He vowed that the regions would not benefit from his government’s development initiatives. "

Now his stance on this topic when Mandinka society meets him, quoted;
"The Gambian leader told the BMS members that he had long since stated that he assumed the mantle of leadership of the country to usher in developments that will better the lot of the citizens. He stated that he has no ill-feelings towards anyone, stressing that what he is interested in is for the citizens to come together as one blood family and disregard their differences for the sake of national development. The president stressed that his developments are not based on tribalism or differences, citing Foni in the Western Region that enjoys few developments compared to other regions, particularly Baddibu in the North Bank Region. He stated that he has done a lot for the people of Baddibu since 1994 to date, something he said was borne out of good intention and his sympathy for them."

Finally after mission accomplished in opposition strongholds; the Presidential tour was wrapped up with this declaration for 2011; from related Bantba Gambian politics topic I will NOT Campaign in the 2011 Elections under http://www.gambia.dk/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=9459
