Mr. Darboe only thanked Sidia Jatta after the withdrawal of UDP from NADD because Sidia made an effort to visit him at his residence on Kairaba Avenue so as to build understanding between them and to try and persuade him to rescind his resignation from NADD. They had a respectful dialogue but could not agree on the way forward. The fact that sidia took that initiative on his own accord is commendable. That is why he was publicly thanked for his noble guesture. How that could be translated as preference over another person is palpably inconceivable. The truth is; you have a propensity of lying about things that you know nothing about. This is shameful and it about time you desist.

Sidia Jatta is mandated to act as a leader of the party (PDOIS/NADD) he represents & does not take issues on his own accord! IT WAS A LAST MINUTE MOVE TO SAVE NADD FROM DIS-INTEGRATION & ALL OPPOSITION PARTIES TO UNITE UNDER ONE UMBRELLA DURING 2006.

I think the idea of the opposition coalition should be scrapped. The difficulties in the conception of the coalition is a foreshadow, I am afraid, of the conflict that lies ahead in such a coalition government. Each party should contest the election on its own platform, and 'hopefully' , UDP with its "big party syndrome" and its satellites (PPP and NRP) can unseat APRC...

I think Kayjatta is right. PDOIS should play for long run. Unhealthy UDP with no ideology, no platform, incapable team and sub-standard leader may be contagious. The constitution of Gambia does not make unity easy anyway. PDOIS should go alone. They have better leader, they have platform and ideas. Jammeh will win the election next year whether there is a unity or not. He has legitimate support and people love him. The agenda of PDOIS should be to became the legitimate alternative for 2016. PDOIS is spending so much energy on useless talk with hopeless UDP. They should use their energy on providing solutions to Gambian's problems.

diaspora! Too many Chiefs and Very Few Indians.

Halifa Salah: PDOIS is however realistic. It is fully aware that the Gambian voters are yet to reach a level of political consciousness that they rely on to vote on the basis of Principles, policies and programmes and practices.

Indeed Turk. Debating with people of Nyari's ilk can sometimes retard your intellectual capacity. They have nothing to offer to any alliance talks except to claim their birth right(their claim to the presidency by virtue of the prophesy of Dobong - apperently Mr Darboe's grandfather prophesied before he died that a Darboe will ascend the Presidency some day, this is the result of Mr Darboe's fixation with the throne). Apparently, he deserves it more than anybody in the Darboe clan, including his children and grandchildren. The funny thing is that he is scared to claim his birthring from the people but from the opposition elite and hierachy he accused of having achieved nothing in politics except 3% votes or have not been tested in any election. I wonder what else these people can offer him.

"... by virtue of the prophesy of Dobong..."

The MYTH, as I heard, Warns the Dobon´kas, not only the Darboes, to pursue knowledge and never to seek political position. Any one that goes into politics will not prosper. This is why no politician steps on the soil of Dobong.

Fables and folklore are part of Daroboe's political life! I thought HOLY MAN'S PROPHECY IS THAT DARBOE MUST BE A PRESIDENT!

LETS BRUSH THESE TALES ASIDE AND START SERIOUS TACTICAL STRATEGY TO PUT HIM THERE; IN SAALAH!

The village is Dobo and not Dobong. Dobong is in Foni in WD and Naini Dobo in CRR is where Lawyer Darboe comes from.

Thanks Momodou,

Dobong kunda is different from Dobo.
Kobo is right on getting to the issue, but the fable & folkloric thing is a trumped-up story.

Well this is not my fable. This is from the son of Dobo himself. Check The Gambia Journal archives, it is live on video. Thanks for the clarifications Momodou.

Janko, I must say that I am disappointed that somebody of your type would entertain the kind of nonsense this PDOIS bigots are peddling here. If the myth is that the Darboes of Dobo could not become political leaders, then that myth has been broken long since when the late Hon. Numukunda Darboe won the parliamentary seat of Lower Fulladu West [he contested and won it several times] and became a leading opposition member of parliament.

This question was once put to the UDP Leader himself in a press interview shortly before the 2001 presidential election, and it was like this just to paraphrase; ''some people say you will not win because members of your family don't become political leaders by virtue of your great grandfather’s prophecy.'' In dismissing this claim, he said the prophecy of this great grandfather was that among his descendants would be intellectuals, the wealthy and leaders. He cited the example of his father the late Hon. Numukunda Darboe as a political leader and the likes of Dr. M.L Sedat Jobe and Dr. Lamin Ceesay [his cousins] as intellectuals. As a former minister, Dr. M.L Sedat Jobe was also a political leader. Alhagi Bakary Darboe, the founder of Bansang, is said to be a very wealthy man in his time.

This is the interview these bigots are referring to as meaning Darboe was claiming a birth right to the presidency. It is nothing but utter nonsense. Darboe is claiming nothing but his constitutional right to seek the presidency as a bona fide Gambian with the requisite qualifications and the previledge of leading the biggest opposition party in the Gambia.

I do hope you will no longer give comfort to these bigots by entertaining their nonsense as it only demeans your person and intellectual standing than anything else.

Regards

In our quest to find a break-through to mobilise a mass revolution 2011 against Jammeh/APRC this is an interesting post/commentaries from Escape from Banjul blog; DEAD ON ARRIVAL: THE GAMBIA’S OPPOSITION PARTIES IN 2011 under http://escapefrombanjul.blogspot.com/2010/09/dead-on-arrival-gambias-opposition.html

Ha ha ha!! Bigots indeed. What is so bigotted about relaying Mr Darboe's public utterances here. Bring the video here, let us hear it from the horse's mouth. Even though it was the most scripted interview i have ever seen in my life. Chei!!

Nyarikangbanna,

you are right, whatever it is, a myth, legend, a fable it has been broken long ago. Hence the man in question is a contemporary political figure as we speak.

The saidmans plot was more folkloric than to describe as if actually so. Therefore, the “story” is an admonition, a Wiseman warning his brood to be aware of the game of politics. Prophecies are not directed or meant for a village or a particular family. At least that’s how I understand it.
The point I am trying to make is that despite its being a "trumped-up story", it is vital to get the facts right hence "Dobong" and "Dobo" are geographically two different places.

Good Janko. We are on the same page now. Anyway, since one of the retards claimed that there is a video on this matter, I hope he will produce it here for us all to see. As far as I know, Mr. Darboe's interview on this matter is on print, not video.
