I have just been watching the pictures from Pakistan. The scale of the problem is massive. The biggest disaster for many years. I can't imagine being one of those people. They have lost everything and the aid is slow to reach them. Now they have the problem of illnesses going through the displaced communities.
It is a massive problem for the government and the aid agencies.
In Edinburgh at the Book Festival I went to a talk by Fatima Bhutto, who said the President is totally corrupt. Money sent government to government will not get to the intended projects. This is very sad as it puts people off giving.
However, she did encourage people to still give to charities such as UNICEF as she felt they would do better at being accountable and use the money in the correct way to help the people most in need.
It would really be a fine gesture if His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh were to make his own donation from his own personal account to help these brothers and sisters in another Muslim country.
"Simple is good" & I strongly dislike politics. You cannot defend the indefensible.
Described as one of the world worst humanitarian catastrphe and unfortunately greater than what happen during last Tsunami. A very important topic to feature in this forum for information and to support disaster reliefs for victims.
Review of these BBC links provide useful information;
A top person from Oxfam was on Radio 4 having just returned from Pakistan. They said THEY were shocked by the scale. THE WORST EVENT they have EVER been to.
They also recommended that people give to the DEC. They made an appeal to people to thank them for their generosity, but to ask them to think if they could spare a little more.
