This again from the D.O. could it be that there is a shortage in the government coffers yet again,? Alien registration or non registration appears to be always in the forefront of things as the "fee" for registration is D1200 (?) now.

Should bring in a few Ds
Snippet:

"He also called on the aliens to register with the Alkalolu of their various communities and to regularise their status by either going in for their residential permits or extension of their stay if necessary with immediate effect. #147;Landlords, local authorities, village development committees, council of elders of towns and villages should also actively play their part towards this noble endeavour and contribute to the efforts of the Gambia Immigration Department in ensuring that every alien in the country is registered,#148; he further stated."

The Gambia Immigration Department (GID) has urged the aliens residing in the country to register with the Alkalolu and regularise their status.

The Gambia Immigration Department has over the past days embarked on an all out crack down on illegal immigrants, vagabonds and undesirable persons within the Kanifing Municipality and its environs.

In a written piece sent to the Daily Observer, the public relations officer of the Gambia Immigration Department, Cadet Inspector Lamin K Manneh, said that majority of these category of persons normally enter the country with genuine documents, but as soon as they are allowed entry, they never regularise their status and that, some of them engage themselves in activities that are never inline with the Gambian norms and values e.g. begging along main highways and other criminal activities.

He stressed that, The Gambia will never be a safehaven for undesirable persons and criminals as far as the Gambia Immigration Department is concern. On alien registration, the GID spokesman noted that registers are sent to all regions across the country. These registers according to him, will be issued to all village and town Alkalolu. This mechanism is to ensure that all aliens in the country are registered with the Alkalolu of their various communities. #147;Alkalolu who are yet to receive these registers are advised to contact the regional immigration Commissioners in their regions,#148; he stated.

He also called on the aliens to register with the Alkalolu of their various communities and to regularise their status by either going in for their residential permits or extension of their stay if necessary with immediate effect. #147;Landlords, local authorities, village development committees, council of elders of towns and villages should also actively play their part towards this noble endeavour and contribute to the efforts of the Gambia Immigration Department in ensuring that every alien in the country is registered,#148; he further stated.

Harbouring of illegal immigrants, he went on is unacceptable. He therefore called on landlords, premises owners e.g. (Lodges) and property agents never to allow any alien or group of aliens to reside within their premises without regularising their status with the immigration. #147;Whoever does so, violates the Immigration Act and will be dealt with according to law,#148; he cautioned. #147;Members of the public are equally advised to be vigilant and report any activity that is not inline with the laws of The Gambia to the nearest security dispensation,#148; he noted.

PRO Manneh further noted that the ongoing raiding campaign will be further intensified, saying; there will be constant patrols along our national frontiers. He therefore called on the members of the public to always comply with immigration personnel in the due execution of their duties and responsibilities. #147;All these moves are geared towards making The Gambia a better, tolerant and a safer heaven for not only Gambians but also non-Gambians alike,#148; he concluded.

"Simple is good" & I strongly dislike politics. You cannot defend the indefensible.
