Greetings Kondorong – A photographer captures the face of a free man after twenty-six years in prison – October 89.
The statement that Walter Sisulu prepared in the event of him receiving the death sentence – Rivonia Trial 1964: I have dedicated all my life towards making a contribution to the best of my ability. The destiny of my country and of my people has placed me in the position where I find myself today; namely to challenge the immoral laws of your government against my people and indeed against humanity. I am to face the gallows simply because I have dedicated my life towards making my humble contributions to my fatherland and to the advancement of the aspirations of my people. I am condemned because I have dared to challenge the Apartheid Monster of the Vorster and Verwoerd clique. All honest men have an obligation to smash oppression and tyranny wherever it exists and by whatever means. History is full of examples of the execution of those who stand for the truth. I am confident that our blood will certainly water the Garden of Freedom!

Walter Sisulu died 5th May 2003 age 90. President Mbeki gave Walter a Special Official Funeral on 17th May 2003. Mandela said at his funeral “ my brother, my keeper, my comrade” – would not have wanted those left behind to mourn, but to celebrate his life. “We shed tears because we have walked such a long road together; sharing trials and tribulations; danger, anguish and fear; and also precious moments of joy, gladness and laughter. Walter Sisulu has lived through and witnessed the major events of the last century that shaped South Africa. What is more important is that he was a major participant in decisively shaping and making history. There can be no greater and more inspiring example in (our) history than Walter Sisulu: a man (who) brought us to where we are today as a country and a people.” Mandela closed with words he often repeated about Walter: Many of us have received awards and accolades and have held high office in the organisation, but even without holding a formal position in the ANC, Walter has always been senior to all of us.”

Thanks sab
Apartheid ended because of commitment and not lip service as we see in the Gambia. The opposition is not committed to change and we should therefore expect nothing less than a one party state come November 2006.
Democracy has always thrived through vigilance and dedication, but also nourished through the sweat of tyrants.

Greetings, that's what is good about bantaba there is always something to learn. I had noticed you ask Kondorong on another posting 'who was the man with grey hair,' that man with the grey hair gave Nelson Mandela a home when Nelson was a young man. And from that home the Youth Wing of the ANC started and the rest is history! They say without Walter, there would have been no Mandela, who knows! I was reading the history on this forum late yesterday, Kingdom of kush, which then in turn made me read up on Ashanti...... I have a Sizzle CD/Bobo Ashanti....that I had to look up, to see the connection......and .......and..... Have a good weekend,

Greetings Kondorong, and apologies, I should not have posted like that on your chosen avatar. I should have disciplined the fingers on the keyboard!
The opposition should have taken into account Mandela's wise words struggle without unity enables the other side to pick you off one by one The split has happened, but that is no reason to become despondent.
When I despair, I remember that all through history the ways of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants, and murderers, and for a time they can seem invincible, but in the end they always fall. Think of it - always.. regards,

You sound like Idi Amin. One always need to take permission to use the title President when he was in power.
Go ahead. You are a great son to be proud of. I like your following. Very educative. |
