Am i missing something, land in Gambia is going up, near sifoe and Tawato it cost 40,000 dls for 30 x 30 metres. anyone good at geography will know that these places are not part of the "Tourist" belt why is so high. i wanted to buy land along the coastal road but on the other side of the hghway, ie not on the ocast road, past tuerjuring, Jambanjaili, but prices are ging through the roof, yes cheap for us europeans but still high for what you get.
gunjar is high priced as well. Does anyone know anything that is happening in the future. new roads, new towns vilalges. or is it just a land grab.

Jambo. THIS POSTING IS MY OWN OPINION WHICH MAY BE TOTALLY INACURATE BUT WILL PROVIDE FOOD FOR THOUGHT.
I think you are missing something if you are not a Gambian or a born member of an African tribe, (if you are then some of this does not apply ) even though you love the Gambia and wish to buy land there although it is obvously possible with lots of money of course, land is very jelously guarded by Gambians, there are often disputes between villages and tribes in The Gambia over who owns what, verbal history is often quoted as nothing exists on paper,THE government owns everything and can take and use what it wants often without compensation, legal stuff through the courts and lawyers can take years and years and everyone will probably be content if you happen to die before your rights are defined.Tne AVERAGE Gambian and village are very poor so there is an element of this man is very rich we can make a lot of money here. There is also a BIG problem trying to establish if the person selling is entitled to sell land to you,its a matter of pot luck as nothing is written down on paper often and sometimes you may be faced with the situation of someone coming along years later and claiming the land you have bought in good faith belongs to him, then the legal stuff starts,or you reach an "agreement" settle and he goes away. However if you fall in love with a Gambian and get married with a resident of the area you wish to buy your land and have a family and get involved with the community and do good works within that community (OK spend you own money!)then the likleyhood of you being able to obtain your own land is increased .I would suggest that you rent if you are unable to marry and get a family. |
