The only person who enjoys freedom of the press and freedom of speech is undoubtedly, some one who runs a media house or owns one and I am not referring to bloggers posing as supposed newspapers or media houses either. It is therefore imperative to understand that these so called media houses housing politicians and utilizing the media as a mouth piece have further degenerated a thriving profession.

Thus far I can reassure you that the biggest problem Gambians are facing is trying to identify what is NEWS and what is politically motivated since these very institutions are being utilized as propaganda machines spreading propaganda and political doctrines. I have doubts that quality journalism ever existed in Gambia given the scenario. The fact is the type of journalism exhibited and so called quality journalism has been in a context far removed from reality.

I will hate to waste my time elaborating on their biases, and poor journalism but once in a while reading through some of their articles, at a glance it does seem radical when initially read, but the fact is they actually fall short of correctly informing the readers of the stupendously and incredibly pervasive circumstances that exist. Every message they seem to relay is either politically motivated or tailored and suited for their own personal agendas. The question remains, how can a politician identify and separate the two trades that were never meant to collide? Personally speaking, I doubt if there is any legitimacy in it since quality journalism is measured on the basis of TRUTH and FAIRNESS.

I am yet to hear about a fair and unbiased political party within our region, as of yet and until that happens, It is satisfactory to assume that the two can never mix. How can your goals and motivations as a politician be separated form the Latter? If you doubt what I am saying take a peek at their editorials, makes you wonder whether this is a newspaper or human rights activists writing political articles. Articles deemed beneficial to the ruling party are never published instead it’s relevance is underpinned, This overwhelming censorship by omission is not merely detached from reality, the true picture is never depicted instead all and almost everything is calculated and suited, The last time well I don’t have to remind ya’ll the GPU leadership which included prominent political figures were arrested and sent to jail for defaming and slandering the president which led to a Sabarry Mission to free them, It’s pathetic and sad to know that the president is expected to intervene when individuals are charged with crimes of trying to undermine the State or undermining his presidency yet he is expected to be mature, pardon and tender mercy to his worst enemies.

Once again I will elaborate Prominent politicians were arrested alongside media practitioners charged with the willful intent to defame. Does the GPU know what its role is or has it been hijacked by unscrupulous politicians utilizing it as a tool to fight back. It seems to me that all the media houses Foroyaa included reflect the politics and views of the owners and what is worrying is the amount of influence this shift to the right is having on people who still believe tabloids. Gambians have always loved a good gossip and somewhere in there believe it. Try getting them to simply ask whose interests are being served? Trust me they will all act oblivious and take it as an insult. The type of journalism being espoused by such media houses is to encourage denigrating ordinary people, just to say that journalism wields a lot of power over these people who do not understand what is happening.

I sometimes wonder how any of them walk around with any type of integrity especially when others are suffering the consequences of their mistakes. What’s particularly sad is that their involvement in the media has helped degenerate the trade and rendered the cause of a free Media baseless, I wonder if without their presence we would be in the mess we have today. Free speech curtailed on the grounds of political correctness and it all has a basis.

The fact is the opposition first of all has to learn to accept defeat, trust me it’s hard for Gambians in general to accept defeat, Once upon a time not long a go Darboe took the opportunity to congratulate the president for winning the elections yet he came back later screaming foul play and unfair elections. It is as African as a Dabakurto, to deny being defeated and one is expected to come up with an excuse at all times as to what led to their failure and the opposition is no exception. As disorganized as Gambians are and their sycophancy it is and will always be a fact that there will be voter irregularity yet it is never a major factor that could determine the outcome of any elections that is controlled and monitored and for the opposition to use that as a reason and well Voter apathy is laughable. The goal should be to separate themselves from the media houses by either being full time politicians or full time journalist.........................Peace

Moe. You are spin-master but this one looks good, fair & balance in my opinion. I really want you to be sober at this level so that you can interact better with those who have diverse opinions.

Foroyaa is exceptional in terms of informing Gambians. The political column is really heavy in exposing the failings of the regime and that's why you don't like them. They are doing a better job that pro-goverment political Daily Observer.

Are you saying that Daily Observer is not politicised

I think Moe is still searching for his identity... does he want to stick with a corrupt and dilusional regime and risk being embarrassed by their actions, or does he want to sit on the fence and be an objective analyst?

Reading that piece of his tells a lot for real. Sometimes I wonder if you live in the US or UK or if you have atleast seen the daily news coverage.

The US press is full of political stuff and in fact they generate the political headlines. You cannot separate the media from politics. Politics is about the people and politicians seek to protect the peoples' interest... And the media is there to expose the news and hold elected officials accountable..

I wonder how long it will take for people like Moe to accept the role of the media. Where do you get your daily news whether you like what you read or not? I bet you cannot go a day without browsing the very blogs and online sites you love to hate.... At least you are getting the news for free.

Journalists are citizens first and the decision politicians make affects them. So why would they not cover politicians or uncover what goes on in public offices... I think you are in an identity crisis mode...

dbaldeh, Moe enjoys name calling with bigger names reserved for him and his captain.

There is no doubt this show will end with Moe bowing down his head in shame. Scores of people already have their heads down.

I think I am as objective as I wanna be Demba, anyhow I obviously browse all the Gambian newspapers first then I say to my self "Harral ma seet Duul Kat ye" what they have to say. I start with the Master Duul kaat Pa Nderry at the freedom blog and then his competitors The Gambiaecho "Geico" Kakatarr online blog. I'll tell you what though ya'll need to work on the content at Gainako. That ugly cow is not good enough, Ya'll one samba Kathy Nakks no one is supposed to trust withg the beef and milk. I do not have an identity crisis and How dare you talk to the King of cyberspace like that? When ya'll start being Journalist I will give you the time of day meanwhile you guys suck at your chosen careers or just plain incompetent. You don't know if you are a journalist or a politician , when you identify what you are then and only then can we discuss anything Demba................................................Peace

Bow my head down with shame.Lol thats for dependents of the State Karamba. Every person so far that bowed their heads with shame bowed for a reason. I am not the type to give reason and my father stopped working for the Gambia government at 45. He served a little over 25 years and left.He is a little over his 70's now. "Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country" Karamba...................................Peace
