Ghanian-born Kofi Annan and former U.N. Secretary General spoke in Yaounde, Cameroon on Thursday, May 20 in commemoration of cameroon's 50th independence day from colonialism.
Mr. Annan spoke about "Human Rights and the Rule of Law: Hopes and Obstacles" as scores of dignitaries-African heads of states- were seated in the back row behind his podium. Many of those African heads of states are rightly dictators of one kind or another, either by coming to power through military coups or by perpetuating themselves in power through fraudulent elections marred by intimidation, violence and death of civilians and opponents.
