I just read a report from Seneweb news paper on line which is alleging that Gambia , Yahya jammeh specifically is involved in the conflict and that he cannot be relied upon to mediate as he had claimed on many previous occasions.,This latest report is from a report covering the crisis which detailed rebel activity and depicted how they the rebels are getting support from both Guinea Bissau and Gambian regimes . This is a very serious allegation but one which has been making the rounds in Senegalese news outlets as well as on our own on line news . Below is an excerpt of that report in French......

Kaanibaa,

For very long time, so much has been said about the involvement of Yaya Jammeh in that Cassamance conflict. But, you know, Turk and co will want you to provide EVIDENCE before Yaya becoming guilty.

My biggest wonder is that lot of the people who share very similar views about atrocities of Yaya Jammeh hardly know each other. How they all join on the same stem without there being a tree, I can't get my head round that.

Interesting stuff.

We should be concerned about these allegations for obvious reasons. one of which is the Bissau imbroglio. In that case Senegal had always suspected and blamed Bissau Government for being involved in that area's rebel problems either by act or omission. What ensued is a bitter war which saw the end of the regime in power followed by all these years of political instability up till this very moment. If The Gambia is being so labelled , there is need for the government to clear it's name or risk a similar scenario as that of Bissau. Senegal cannot be expected to continue ignoring the assault of their territorial boundaries by rebels who use Gambian soil allegedly as their hideouts or bases as it were. We saw Senegal carry out various armed incursions into Bissau and claiming hot pursuit as excuses for them. Gambia is a very tiny country and I believe it cannot sustain a very heavy assault of sorts by a foreign power, even though we have heard our H.E. Sheik Jammeh bragging that he could stand any force, which I liken to paper tiger full of sound and fury but signifying nothing...After all he will be relying on those very same soldiers that he now has very little regard for as evidenced by the continuous assault on their ranks via arrests ,detentions, enforced disappearances and secret killings etc.
