hello everyone, how is the day.
It looks like my prayers will be answered. the little school that I help needed a new classroom and builder and his wife want to go to gambia and build it.

Here are my questions.

Can i buy bricks ready made in Gambia,
or do we buy the materials and make them ourselves.
what cost should I look at paying.

Has anyone else built something like this.

because it is a room added onto another room, it is not classed as a new build.
i will definately keep everyone posted.

BUT OPERATION BUILD A CLASSROOM IS MOVING.

Greetings to you Jambo. Cheapest way to build is to buy cement, sand (by the lorry load) etc and get a blockmaker to make the blocks on site. You will probably be paying around D3 per block and a good maker should be able to make around 280-300 blocks per day. Just ensure that the mix is a strong one as a lot of blockmakers try to get away with too many blocks per bag of cement. You should calculate around 30-35 blocks per bag. Hope this info is helpful. Good luck.

You need to be careful about the time of year you build. You don't want blocks lying around in the rainy season.

Bev, you can make cement bricks during the summer when there is no rain. They get dried within less than 12 hours.

Yes but if you have no place to store them they can get spoilt. Unless you get the roof on the building quick enough.
