Jammeh Weeds more Ministers By Alieu Darboe
In another tough move as a legitimate requirement under the provisions of section 71 (4b) of the constitution of the Gambia, the president has relieved three Cabinet Ministers of their portfolios.
According to a dispatch from the presidency, the Gambian leader Yahya Jammeh Friday March 19th 2010 relieved Ministers Abdou Kolley, Marie Saine Firdaus and Baboucarr HM Jallow their portfolios of finance, attorney general and trade respectively with immediate effect.
The dispatch further stated that in the same vein, the president acting under section 71 (1) and 71 (3) of the constitution appointed Edward Gomez as the new Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Momodou S Foon Minister of Finance and Dr. Njogu Lamin Bah the former civil service boss as the new Trade and Employment Minister.
By the time of going to press, no official reasons were given for the latest sackings.
It would be recalled that earlier this year, the Gambian leader restructured the cabinet after terminating the services of four Ministers and appointed four others. The sacked Minister of Trade, and Employment was among the new appointees before this catastrophe hit him.
