Culled from Daily news Posted By: article on Mar 08, 2010 11:38AM Category: Public Opinion;
The Cankerworm in Gambian Society With a well formulated constitution with all its checks and balances in place yet flaws of the said dossier is the order of the day as the dictates of the provisions are trampled upon to suit the whims and caprices of those in the corridors of power without any whistle blowers. Where lays PATRIOTISM the brandished word of these days when the citizenry cannot rise up to the challenge to correct the flaws? On the contrary, PARTISOTISM is measured by sycophancy, allegiance to an individual in authority (whether wrong or right until when such are found wanting and shown the door only for their flag bearers to shun them and even keep them at arms length) not to talk about the mushrooming of all sorts of societies in the pretext of PATRIOSM yet such are only ulterior motives. The so called educated ones in our midst are the very violators of our constitution as they do things the haphazard way for ulterior motives only to put potentials at bay thus the country cannot thrive with such square pegs in round holes as in the youth and sports sectors. CAN WE REDRESS?
An analogy of the statements above depict how the CULTURE OF SILENCE which is the CANKER WORM pervading our dear motherland just because the few whistle blowers who project the truth are ostracized and denied dues and other fringe benefits that are usually reserved for the so called PATRIOTS. Recent cases in point are many and varied thus only for the public to appreciate the whistle blowers but the powers that be negate such only to save face and keep their jobs.
1.THE VIOLATION OF THE ACT THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY WHEN A MINISTER DISSOLVED THE NATIONAL SPORTS COUNCIL AND PUT IN PLACE AN INTERIM ONE which when challenged, led to the closure of a radio programme just to curb the challenge and threaten litigation to maintain the silence! What another derision of our LAWS OF THE LAND?
2. How can a National body Constituted by an act of the national Assembly assented to by H.E. SHEIKH PROFESSOR DR ALH YAYA A.J.J.JAMMEH be removed and a temporary one devoid of provincial representation be put in place? Where lays adherence to the constitutional dictates?
3. Now that a new structure has evolved devoid of provincial representation how can redress be sought when all calls have fallen on deaf ears for the ministry of youth and sports to reconsider the decision?
4. Why is a letter addressed to H.E the PRESIDENT on the issue VIDE the Ministry be blocked hitherto? Where lays justice if the alarm bells are rung only to be given a deaf ear? What are we teaching our young? Where is the truth which is the bedrock of society going to thrive?
Amazing that with all these happenings, we pride ourselves of being a PEACEFUL national! Yes we are at peace because of our nature but not at peace with ourselves as we are troubled within almost all these flaws but the culture of silence is deterring many to rent their spleen. For those of us who choose to be whistle blowers, we are deprived of all dues such as employment opportunities as well as all others to benefit mankind. Can sanity prevail in this regard?
The way out of the quagmire is to have a NATIONAL DIALOGUE beginning at the grass roots through the wards, districts, and regions to graduate into a NATIONAL CONFAB where strategies can be mapped out to remedy this pathetic scenario.
CAN WE OBLIGE? WHO CAN BELL THE CAT?
