Battle for nothing. No winner, more casualties. That is exactly what the political atmosphere of Gambia epitomises.
Yaya Jammeh is aware of all the political squabbles and knows what he is capable of doing in the last minute. Opposition parties are not together. That's for real and surely, time is not just one of the good elements in favour of the opposition parties' disputes or disagreements. That is a perfect beef for Yaya to chew raw.
Evidently, supporters and sympathisers of opposing parties on this and many other Gambia faura cast hot blows on each other and lot of times missing the right target. Yaya knows what is at stake should he not win elections. Winning for him is not just about having to stay misruling. There is more to it.
Put thick and short, Gambian opposition parties simply play the beef and Yaya is just hungry to chew raw meat if that's what it takes. There is a failure even before the game starts.
Going by what is running around so far, certainly not this time for sane and orderly liberation of Gambians from the claws of tyranny.
Only when Yaya Jammeh is not part of the game that anything goes near good. Being the very unjust and utterly unfair person, will Yaya keep out of Gambian politics after all the long years of shooting and looting?

"Time has come for each of us to realize that the destiny of this nation is in our hands. The decision we take and the choice we make will either make or break the nation. We cannot afford to live on castle in the air. We must build it on land to live in prosperity. Relying on those we know will not sustain ones prosperity in the long run. We must build the type of country where we can get our entitlements based on our input without relying on anyone for favours or charity. That is the only sustainable way to dignity and prosperity." Foroyaa Editorial Halifa Sallah

"The urgency for the opposition parties in Gambia to be responsible to all Gambians has therefore arrived. Proposals have been bandied about, on the processes and procedures of a formulation of a party of national unity. Debates have been had, tempers have flared, and passions stirred and yet, there have not been any signs that the clarion call by many Gambians for a united opposition will be answered. This is the first hurdle that must be stepped over. The fact that UDP and NRP are paying lip service to unity, and doing the complete opposite, signals the power lust for leadership even before they’ve reached State House. What will they do, as individuals, when they get there? The time to build a much needed public trust is now." Jeggan Grey - Johnson

Assuming that Gambian opposition parties nurtured courage and embrace unity this moment in time, will the Jammeh factor not still impact on political health of the nation? Jammeh has destroyed order to establish disorder. He dismantled trust to promote mistrust. The list goes on.
Where we stand today as a nation is this slippery political ground where Jammeh made (is making) it bad enough for other players. There is nothing for the opposition even if they all come together so long as Yaya is still in lustful passion for that position of president. Once voted then he (Yaya) changes every part of the laws to keep in tighter control.
Gambian opposition already lost the battle before the war. One way to regain anything is to have Yaya Jammeh out of the political arena. He is not needed there. Going to polls with him is a complete failure for the opposition.
Yaya Jammeh is THE obstacle to political decency in Gambia. Opposition parties are in the game for the sweet name of it. |

We have brainstorm over & over again. TIME IS RUNNING OUT TO FOCUS AS A TEAM TO ADDRESS THE SITUATION CONSIDERED AS AGENDA 2011 (A BROAD BASED CHALLENGE & TACTICAL EXERCISE TO SEEK SOLUTIONS, ADDRESS IMPASSE OF OPPOSITION & MOBILISATION OF A DYNAMIC FORCE INCLUDING RESOURCES FOR THE COMMON GOOD
"The solution to the current political decay in The Gambia cannot be solved by Gambians at home. The Opposition parties are divided, weak, and under funded. They have proven time and time again that they cannot fight the battle by themselves. It is my belief that a progressive and united Diaspora is our last hope. " Ebou 4th

Exactly how Ebou4 thickly put it. This thread is no new news. It is simply a reminder that Gambian opposition holds nothing at hand. Everything is under the iron grips of one self-seeking person who takes the position of Gambian presidency as his life. Where we stand at the moment is that no matter how united or divided the opposition may stand, they are already defeated before the contest. Yaya has spolit the cook and no amount of opposition clever cookery or dextere craft work will help do any good.
Suggested solution:
Let the opposition stop opposing each other and work together to ensure Yaya does not contest any more Gambian elections. He already overstayed his welcome if he was ever welcome at all. Once Yaya goes out of the ring, then the opposition has way of decent politics between equals. As at now no opposition party individually or in totality gets anywhere equal to Yaya Jammeh (the man and party embodiment.)
Ask who wants to see Yaya Jammeh not winning the elections, the first hands up will be mine. But truth to the word, I recognise that his chances of winning are 90 to 10 ratio. He is there to win elections, that is it. Not my choice but the truth stands.
Yaya is not simply a winner, he is a gamer. |

Kobo,
Good to know that some others have their thought paved along that realisation, though quickly to declare, we all have our independent opinions. By critical analysis, the picture I capture of Gambian political reality is that "Jammeh yahana gewgi."
We are standing on bamboo platform and no way of doing it better than refusing to play with Yaya Jammeh. All the political strategy WILL NOT WORK for now until Jammeh is no longer part of the game.
This fellow erupted with that ugly act of a coup and now wants to keep that as normal. Politicians of Gambia if they ever have to make serious progress, they have to dig into the roots of this coup made order. It is IMPOSSIBLE to grow berries on rocks. Yaya Jammeh has made the Gambian political topography so rocky, next to a no go way.
Bottom line of my observation is that nothing works with Yaya Jammeh in Gambian politics. He was not part of it and suddenly jumped in agressively. It is not his interest to have order. Like satan (iblis) feeds on fire, so too Yaya Jammeh feeds on disorder.
Because of the disorderly state of affairs, no opposition party strategy will work until that state of order prevails. For now the total embodiment of Yaya Jammeh and his coup made political formation is total disorder. Think of anyone choosing to operate in that disorder, enjoy a big joke of day and night |

All that has come out very clear is that Yaya Jammeh has no clear conscience. He does not care about the verdict of history and all the consequences. Take a good look at all Yaya's words and actions and you see how less he cares about words, deeds, and consequences.
Yaya, in short is nothing but "anti-history." A man of multiple tongues. He acts in the very opposite of what he condemns.
At end of day, it is only Gambia and Gambians that have to regret. This fellow robbed the nation when he was so poor. He is still poor. Ask why he is poor, the answer is because his mindset is so badly screwed up. Yaya remains the poorest person in Gambia going by that. That is why he is unable to ENJOY anything. So he tries his hand on everything but nothing works for him. Look at his recent photos and get to know what is biting deep down this worried fellow. Sorrow to Gambians though. |
