I don't know how many have paid the 5 Euros subscription to this TV4Africa but I have seen some Fraud Warning mails to Gambia-L warning about the site.

Two days ago, I paid the 5 Euros through a paypal account. The mail I received from Paypal stated "You have 45 days from the date of the transaction to open a dispute in the Resolution Center."
My username and password had been sent to me after paying through paypal. However, it ended in my spam folder because it was marked as 99% spam and I did not realise until I called the guy.

Yesterday I spoke to the owner through the German phone number provided in the contact information. He is from Gabon or some other French speaking country on the West Coast. His name is Zacharie Joly Nkondo according to the paypal receipt and he answered the phone as Joly.
During my conversation with him, he asked me if I could assist him in writing an English user manual due to the fact that many people write to him asking questions of how to download or exit from the program and his English was not that good. I told him that I had no time but he definitely needs to write some instructions.

The anoying thing about using the program is that one has to copy and paste the user name and password each time you want to change from one TV Channel to the other (e.g from RTS to Gambia TV). The programes are Live broadcasts.
The guy told me that one could order a USB key inorder to avoid being asked the user name and password.

Honestly, I was also suspicious when I was directed to an error page which looked dubious after paying the 5 Euros.

There is no guarantee that the guy is not one of those scammers, so one has to be cautious always not to give your bank details to strangers specially on the internet, secondly make sure you have an updated internet security program (firewall and antivirus) installed.

The seems to be some misunderstanding if there is any fraud. The following is an update from the person who first sent the warning at G-L:
------quote---
A day after my payment for the Tv4Africa service, it seems positive signs have emerged from the horizon. My registration or user name and password have arrived in my mail box. I have used the info to login successfully and watch 20 of the 24 channels. I strongly believe that the programmes are streamed live.

While it may seem like backtracking from my original statements, it does not amount to a retraction of what i stated earlier. I had acted in good faith and out of preponderance of caution. I fell for 419 before and would raise alarm bells should i smell something fishy. The owners could have averted this by automatically returning registration info after payment has been made rather than waiting for a day later. Since this is the beginning of day one of my experience, i would stop here and continue to monitor the service for effectiveness.

------end quote------

Toubab, I am enjoying my honeymoon with this service. I am watching the GRTS LIVE at the moment.

I downloaded the website or whatever but soon came to realise that I am being left with loads of malware surely it is not a very safe site and any one going there must beware before he/she gets a computer crashing after logging on. I had a rough time trying to get even my normal programmes and needed to treat my laptop. I may be wrong but I suffered this PC malaise after logging on to that web site and feel justified in making the above comments.I surely am not venturing there again.

It appears that you got the best deal , now that the site is being recognised it is suffering from lots and lots of nasty stuff, as Kay( I am not an Att.!) would say "Caviat emptor" (its latin for, buyer beware !!)

So the the alert is valid. Anyway, I have not experienced any malfunction yet but as I mentioned above; I was suspicious when I was directed to an error page which looked dubious after paying the 5 Euros. Now I wonder also how comes the guy asked me to help him write a user manual when he can be so smart to make such a service.

Kaanibaa and Foni, I would advise that you have all the latest service packs from Microsoft installed if you are runing windows. That could as well be one of the reasons why your laptops crash.

Ha ha ha!! Gambians like to count their pennies, don't they? And you too Momodou? I thought you were a millionaire. Chill out people, it's only five Euros. Besides, your money is safe with Paypal. This man has been with Paypal long enough to be genuine. Frauds don't last long with them. One more unnecessary complaints to Paypal might lead to his services being terminated. I think most of the errors with this service is technical, likely due to sudden surge in the volume of subscribers and the owner is clearly struggling to keep up. His English is also very limited. The only people to worry should be those who have no protection on the PCs. You are not only inviting malware but hackers and swindlers to yourselves. They can take over your Paypal account and clean up your credit card within minutes. Every pennny spent on PC protection is worth it, so take advantage. By the way i am only a hypocrite, i have not subscribed. A donation is not compulsory. The donation idea is just a sales gimmick.

Shaka, the guy has already cheated me 0.016 Euros for today. I alway get RTS each time I try GRTS. I called and he won't take the phone. He must be tired of Gambians.

Wow, that is a load of money! I am fuming for you too. I notice also notice the RTS channel. It free for me, so no much complaint there. That said i honestly think the man might be experiencing some problems with his source of GRTS channel(a satelite TV channel). Probably some technical issue beyond his control. But he is offering RTS for free, that probably shows that he is not an evil fraudster. There seems to be some good in him. I hope the problem is sorted out soon. Give it a day or so and see. Never mind Momodou your money is going to good causes, 'an orphanage' in Gabon. Now it is my turn to call this bugger and demand a salary for all the PR or atleast some free login sans 'donations.' Business is business, right? And time is monin as our Senegalese brethren are wont to quip. By the way, don't we aught to find the source of satelite broadcast for GRTS in the diaspora and subscribe there instead. Someone told me that is one off payment for these satelite services. What do you think?

I have not yet seen or heard anyone here in Denmark or other Scandinavian countries who is able to get GRTS through satellite.
Nevertheless, I wouldn't be surprised to see a similar or better LIVE streaming service by one of our own soon. The move will definitely be welcome.

The guy says he is having problems with the signal strength of GRTS. The strength is very low.

By the way GRTS is NOT accessible anywhere in Europe,The goverment has spent millions on a project that does not benefit those in need of it.GRTS has gone salite for a while and still Gambians in the Diaspora are desparately struggling to have access to it.Its time we all call on the management of GRTS to Resign, they have failed and continue failing every Gambian dispite the high cost of that satelite installation. Its located on the wrong channel and the management should get intouch with the sister stations in senegal to ensure it accessible through the same satelite channels.Senegalise stations even privately own ones are easily accessible globally, whats wrong with Gambia I keep wondering''''''''''''
