Youths' Frustration on Unemployment
The driving force of any progressive nation is its youths. It is therefore important that a responsible Government and its citizens listens to the plight of the youths everywhere. The youths of a nation must be educated and employed. Instead of some of the white elephant structures, useless festivals (Kanilai Jamboree), sponsor of state terror (through the notorious green boys and girls), wind-fall rains (of money, property, cars, paying for girls airfares from outside the country to join festivals, etc...), an institution that calls itself a government must provide standard education, security and jobs for the youths. Gainako's Solo files from the nation's capital city, Banjul, the Gambia... http://www.gainako.com/news/news/2010/01/19/banjul-youths-express-frustration-over-looming-unemployment-asked-for-jobs-from-president-jammeh-not-parties.html

A very accurate report of the problem in this article but there is just one thing missing........ How to solve the problem and create worthwhile jobs.Personally the answer is beyond my simple brain. |

2bab,
It is simply as in Kay's words, an "idle state house"
Jobs! Jobs! Security! Security! Education! Education! Education!!! That is the solution to the puzzle.
quote: Fankung said:YJ, With all due respect, I think your reporter is absolutely biased on your comments here are not addressing the issues. We understand there is high unemployment but where are the resources that we can use to combat this issue. I believe you live in the States. Well, at the moment your unemployment is at 10%+ and many economists are predicting that it is going to take 3+ years to bring this down. If it can take a while for the worlds most powerful economy to bring down unemployment to the "natural rate", how about the Gambia.
What we know is that Jammeh is doing his best in education. Now there are Gambians around the world pursuing graduate degrres all because of Jammeh. In fact some in this forum went thrrough the Univ of Gambia. Besides, there are a number of small businesses employing young talented gambians. So we are getting there and next time tell your reporter to be consistent.
In china 4th quarter growth is in excess of 10% and yet unemployment is a big problem. So please tell your reporter to put his reports into context.
Long Live APRC, Long Live Yaya Jammmeh and NO MORE opposition
Find below a response i response to him at the Gambia-Post mailing list. quote: Simple is good, & I dislike politics
quote: Greetings & happy belated new year. Despite our political differences, a debate is still welcome. Since you are a Jammeh supporter as you appeared here over time, or 'nationalist' as some of your folks think, winning the national awards as recently note here and there, and those of us who are perceived not, must be excused time and again, if not for our honest harshness towards Jammeh, but trying to expose both the pseudo-pillars of the crumbling administration and its engagement of terror, corruption and nepotism towards our decent citizenry. This is so because I very well doubt Jammeh's effectiveness. My frustration, quite honestly, is not born out of respect or jealousy towards him or his accomplices -neither of them. I do not aspire to be a politician, nor does anyone within my immediate family. It is just not realistic especially with the nightmare of terror and other wastage observed by this administration.
Though, I didn’t cross-check the data you provided as to whether it is authentic or not, I want to acknowledge it first. After that, I am now putting it to you that Jammeh is paying for girls’ airfares from the “outside” to the Gambia. These girls are given the best state vehicles, security, in luxurious hotels, and above all, this case that I am currently following reveals that Jammeh gave a girl US $20, 000.00. Another instance I monitored a year ago, Jammeh paid for another beauty pigeon and her entire family (upto 5 people) to go visit in the Gambia. It is just like the Akus will say “dashing” money of the blues, not to mention the Jamboree in grand kanilai aka 'Bamba-dinka' or 'Sindola', so-called HIV treatment, etc…the administration must empower the youths by providing education and seeing jobs are there. It is not only enough to build these class rooms aka white elephant structures, but to equip them with good teachers and possibly directly a budget to the youths’ education. The kind of windfall legacies is mind-bugging. For God, and goodness sake, how long will it end? When our brothers and sisters are adventuring through the seas and deserts in search of greener pastures, just because the jobs are not there. You know what: There is a better word; Kayjatta will tell you that this is an “idle State house” and I agree it is. It is as God stated in surah 109, "To you be your religion; and me, mine." In the same way, I am not in self-denial, but I believe many of the current supporters to this administration are either selfish, corrupt and notorious greenboys' killers, or just out of touch with concrete reality

Dalton1, I read what you say, obvious you might think simple, but is it? Jobs, What jobs,? what jobs can the youths and young people do now or in the near future?,answer? there is nothing for them. Security ? has many meanings,be safe in your home,be safe in your employment, if you have any,be safe from illness, can these be achieved in the short to medium term, unlikely. Education, here there is a little hope, the youths (most of them) would welcome education and be proud to be educated, for when they were small it is probable that school fees could not be found, let the family go hungry or pay school fees ? again no contest,Teachers are not attracted to the profession any more, Why ? no money,The contents of your postings do point out where savings could be made, but these are a drop in the ocean compared with the amount required.
Yes folks again its all about money, and Gambia has always had this problem, no natural resources. I am sorry to have appeared to have joined the Politicos here for a brief moment I will try not to do it again .

| touby your simplicity approach is good. Yeah, some like to hold the politician/government responsible for everything and disregards the reality of Gambia, in this case, wealth. Gambia's GDP per capita $ 500, Norway $ 90,000. Gambia has 500 for each Gambian to resolve education, jobs, security health, Norway has 90,000 dollars. Gambian's problem is not politicians (politicians are similar in UK). It is hard realities from wealth. |
diaspora! Too many Chiefs and Very Few Indians.
Halifa Salah: PDOIS is however realistic. It is fully aware that the Gambian voters are yet to reach a level of political consciousness that they rely on to vote on the basis of Principles, policies and programmes and practices. |

Where one greedy man takes everything as personal belonging, that person is responsible for whatever goes wrong in respect of resource allocation. What we have seen Yaya Jammeh done (and still doing ) is taking everything from every body and not allocating resources properly. That is exactly why all fingers point at him as THE crime bearer. Statistics apart, there is ample evidence of unfair, uneven distribution. Yaya is due for proper fixing.
That Yaya Jammeh assembles free ladies from around the globe for his joy show is big shame.

Ylowe,
In Gambia there is no such thing as POLICY where it matters to Yaya Jammeh. The fellow is simply lawless and will do anything because he controls guns to shoot down anyone out to challenge his unlawful conduct. Yaya is compelling Gambians to extremes. By that he is so badly unfair. Where is Camara of Guinea and Nino of Guinea Bissau? They are gone, leaving behind what the two Guineas now face to live with. Exactly that or worse than what happens in the two Guineas is what Yaya is breeding for Gambia. He will have to go but no doubt his legacy stands very ugly history for generations. |
