The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has strongly refuted rumours that they are carrying out a bonafide voter registration exercise recently, a press release issued by the country#146;s electoral body signed by Alhaji Mustapha Carayol, revealed.

Below we reproduce the full text of the release;
The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) wishes to debunk with alacrity the erroneous notion being peddled around that it is presently carrying out a bonafide voter registration exercise.

The truth is that the IEC is currently considering various options for the use of biometric-based solutions in the forthcoming registration of voters exercise commencing in January 2011.

This is the reason why two companies; namely Code Incorporated and Zetes Pass, were invited to The Gambia to conduct mock registration exercise from January 14th to January 16th 2010 which will enable both the stakeholders and the Commission to make an informed judgement in the way forward in the electoral process.

Registration of voters will commence in January 2011. Recruitment and training will be conducted in the last quarter of 2010.

"Simple is good" & I strongly dislike politics. You cannot defend the indefensible.
