Femi Peters Replies Waa Juwara

In a rather unprecedented move, the Campaign Manager of the opposition United Democratic Party, Mr. Femi Peters has reacted to the comments made by Lamin Waa Juwara that if all goes well, President Jammeh will win the 2011 Presidential elections with a landslide victory, saying it would be the mother of all elections as they are not going to take it lightly.

“It will be the mother of all elections as we are not going to take it lying down,” Femi told this paper in an interview yesterday.

Waa told this paper in a recent interview that “It is my candid opinion and observation that all being one, President Jammeh will win the next Presidential elections landslide because as of now, there is no credible opposition challenge. We must admit our total failure”.

According to the UDP Campaign Manager, if anybody believes that President Jammeh is going to win the next election with a landslide victory, he/she must be living in a dream-land. As he stated, “we in the opposition particularly in the UDP are not going to let President Jammeh go away with it like he did over the past 15 years”.

Peters stated that the oppositions in The Gambia are ready to the fullest but was quick to add that they would as well leave others to dream.

On the possibility of forming another opposition alliance ahead of 2011, Femi noted “let’s hope that will be and let’s hope that we all will be committed”.

Currently, The Gambia has about nine political parties, most of which are marginalised with little more than platforms for their leaders. The principal political parties, however, constitute a true multiparty and democratic political culture.

"... Peters stated that the oppositions in The Gambia are ready to the fullest but was quick to add that they would as well leave others to dream...."

Mr. Peters and his colleagues must be “ready to the fullest”, in secret, supposedly ... is that a rhetorical statement? Or is it Janko who is not in touch with the intense work they are doing to win 2011. Secondly, who is dreaming - are they both dreamers?

I believe the opproturnity is surely there for the opposition to win BUT provided they form a strong coalition with credible principles.Putting into account the voters aparthy wich marked the previous election. But a single political party cannot win over APRC in present Gambia.Gambians are yearning for change provided the oppostions put there house in order first.

I think these politicians love making a fool out of Gambians ,what i wanna see is that viable opposition and the coalition that's gonna give Jammeh a run for his money. This is what i call dishonesty at it's best, only if you are living in a dream world ,The big fishes admitted to having failed Gambians and then the Jotto's say hell no!! we got plans under our sleeves when they forgot the got on wife beaters .All i can say about Femi is that he looks like one Pissed off dude, talking nonsense.....................................................peace

The question to Mr. Peters with all due respect is that, how do you expect to play the same old game and expect different results?

Every cycle of elections we hear that UDP or PDOIS is got this and got that... what is different from 2006? As far as we know these people have lost support from election to election.

If there is any dream it is the opposition who are dreaming.

Halifa's agenda 2011 is just that simply a dream. Do Halifa really expect Jammeh to engage them intellectually? Come on... all the man knows is how to clinch on to power by any means.

I don't see any hope without these people willing to get out of their comfort zones and allow fresh ideas to come on board.

I am begining to advocate a NEW POLITICAL PARTY LEAD BY A STRONG WOMAN. It is time we turn the ball over to those mothers who care more about us and our kids...

... And it seems as if the poetics is getting ahead of the reality. Saying the opposition is ready without seeing that readiness in the electorate is like killing the snake before it appears. It is absolutely logical to see a women contender, but then she has to come out now for time is running out
