Do you not think that Gambia is now trying to re-brand itself as an up-market tourist destination?? - look at Coco Ocean and the Sheraton. Coco Ocean is already being written about as one of the best Spa Hotels in the world - and has prices to match that accolade.
I think one of the reasons for the growing expense is global price rises but another is the search for "better" (and I put that in inverted commas!) tourists.
But these Hotels are also foreign owned so the money doesn't stay and the rich tourists don't often (and I generalise) notice the poverty of the country they are in ...
It's a dilema. But yes, I think it's getting more expensive.

You may be right lily Gambia is trying to rebrand it self with these 2 hotels.I think I read somewhere that there are 400 establishments for tourists. What ever the number is these are the ones that need to be filled many owned by gambians and yes you are right about increased world prices. The points you raised Turk I dont think will change anytime soon if ever. So what to do to have an immeadiate effect is revalue the Dalsi and reduce airfairs and I dont think that will happen so things will just get worse for everybody |

Turk what a list, I ask myself this, why is still in its infancy, 5) if they are trying to change the face of the tourists, "more upmarket", do not leave the resort etc, that money will not benefit the country, it benefits the resort owners, who are not Gambian. yes they will spend small amount on local wages, food, fixtures and fittings. No 6)Yes, thats right kill the cash cow hussel it is, this is at government level 4) this is the bumster/taxi/restaurant level 3) 1 why so much import , what exactly do they import, where from, and what cost? anyone know |
